Question Son working abroad..............

..............so it occured to me that he won't now be paying any NI will he?

What ought he to do, in order to protect his rights in the UK, pension, JSA etc?

Also, if working in the EC, will he be/ought he to be allowed medical care there for feree/reduced?

Who'd have thought it was so complicated?

Will look into that, doubt they'll just GIVE it him, it probably has to be aggressively claimed, this being Broon's Britain.

NI anyone?

So long as he pays NI for 30 years in the UK he should get a full pension.

He can make a voluntary contribution. However this is pointless imo as I can't see this tight bunch leaving a state pension alone for much longer. Pay into a private pension and keep enough leeway to survive job loss I reckon.

I worked in Tenerife for four years and paid my tax there. When I returned to the UK, HMRC said that my contributions paid in the EC would be taken into account.

It's called a reciprocal taxation agreement, I did the same hen I worked in Thailand.

Believe it or not, the advisor at my local Inland Revenue office was exceedingly helpful

Which is probably why my local Inland Revenue office has since been closed down

OBVIOUSLY

Heh heh, I live in North Lincs, and have had SEVEN "local" tax offices during my life, so far.
