the cat scares do work, but you need to find out where to put them for maximum effect as a scatter gun approach wont work, they'll just crap in areas where the ultrasonics dont hit them.
have a look at this, might be of some use, its something I wrote a while ago when our next door neighbours at the time had half a dozen cats.
An error occured : (mykp.co.uk)
There are comments and suggestions on there as well from others with the same problem.
funny how since we've had a dog I dont have the same problem!

Get your own cat. People will tell you that it will keep the others away but in reality it just means that you won't know whether it's your cat or someone else's thats defacated in your flower bed.

Other neighbour as a dog and although he doesn,t have a problem with cat poo on the garden his dog is constantly barking at the cats who sit on the fence winding it up . i did once push one over but the dog wasn't fast enough

Yep have the same problem.
Weirdly it started after we replaced our rear fence, the old one was rotten and had ivy all over it and especially along the top. Now you can see the cats walk along the top, they never used to be able to do that with the ivy there.
So I started with repellent solution, worked ok in the area's it was spread, but they just changed to other areas. Next tried the scarers, I had two and needed more because they don't cover the whole garden and they go through batteries like anything. Plus I tried vinegar, which they didn't like (old wives tale), but frequently spilled a little on me, and I don't like the smell either!
I'm now onto water, they don't like it at all. Summer they just scatter as soon as you come out the back door before I get to the hose, but with a water pistol I can fire it from the upstairs back windows. Works well but I cannot right to the back fence. Plus I know they come at night (the sneaky barstewards), when I am not around.
I'm seriously thinking of getting one of the cheap water plant watering kits and training it to work across the garden flower beds (plus it will water the plants) and then also getting a motion sensor switch to turn it on an off.
I'm actually a cat liker, but this really annoys me as I have two young kids who love playing in the garden and digging stuff up, we just don't want them digging that stuff up thank you. So I am quite happy to say that I am getting close to the air pistol solution.

We use this stuff, can't remember the name of it, but basically it's impregnated with lion **** and you can buy it in garden centres.
You see a new cat come into the garden, they get half a whiff of it and run like the clappers.
You can just imagine them thinking, "crikey, what size cat did that !"
(And I am serious, this is not a joke!)

Get a Greyhound, fast enough to catch any cat and they are hard as nails, I used to have one and a cat was sat in the holly bush spitting at him, so he stuck his head right in the holly bush and pulled the little bas^%&d out by his head and gave it a good shake, never seen a cat near the garden since. He was pretty crazy though. Wanted to fight with every dog he saw too.

6ft fences with 1ft gravelboards (or two gravel boards and 5ft panels ). And then line all the tops and posts with Prikka Strips.
I've only done the side gates atm as a test. It confused Tubby the tabby as thats usually his way over (scratching my lovely gloss stained golden cedar door paneling )
I've now raised the 5ft fences to 7ft,and just need to add some more prikka strips to totally secure the rear garden and hopefully be totally rid of Tubby the tabby's turds for good
The only thing I found the repellant works with is spraying on garden tub/pots - as thats Tubby's favoured turd drop-off points (digging up whatever bedding plants that are in there ). However it doesn't stop the cat defecating or "scenting" anywhere else in the garden.

I would be interested to find out what definitely works (other than different cat ****), as we have quite a problem with them too. So far, by people at work who keep coming back for various stuff to repel them, nothing we sell at least seems to work.
I had been told they don't like water, not just being sprayed, but someone did suggest putting bowls around the garden (I was not convinced at all). I somehow think this was an old wives tale, as a couple of years back, I left my rather large paddling pool out overnight, only to wake up to a cat sitting on the side of it. If the little bugger had burst it, my humane attitude would have gone right out the window.

Think the cat repeller might work for 5 of the ******, its ginger ***** thats the problem (this is one toug *****) .He sits on the shed looking at me through the kitchen window i know he knows hes winding me up .Another time just after i'd washed the car he decides to trample all over the bonnet leaving paw prints all over .I've even seen him layed in the middle of the road so cars after drive around him .Cat repeller aint going to work on ginger *****

Go out, with a shovel and bring it down on,
The floor to pick the poo up, I would never advocate hitting a Cat with a Shovel,
A spade is much more effective.......
I love these threads,
I will kill the cat, I will kill you, loads of ***** waving, bad ***** jokes, even by "Are you being served" standards !
