John thaw is dead

That's taken the shine off my night, after watching the curling. I'm surprised there's no other replies before now.
Condolences to his family and friends.
No disrespect intended, but did he have something wrong with one of his legs/ankles? Noticed when watching Morse he seemed to almost drag one of his feet.
Mike.

Actually he did limp in real life....I believe he had a stroke years ago which left him partially paralysed....
I remember watching a documentary about him a year or two ago.
Damn shame though all the same......

heard this on the way to work this morning. An acting talent that will be sorley missed, and cannot be replaced.
He was great as Regan in the sweeny ("You're nicked!") and as Endeavour Morse in Inspector Morse.
the light of the world has dimmed somewhat with his passing

Another good guy who should have been knighted for his contribution to drama.
How come they never manage to live long enoough before they get the nod?
Would Morecambe and Wise have been knighted if they'd lived long enough. I think so!
Roll on Sir David Jason - What are the chances?

I have a great John Thaw story
My friend and I were coming back from Ford Fair a couple of years ago, we are massive Sweeney fans and made the obvious " Guvnor" comments whilst having a look at the Ford Granadas.
On the way back the traffic was really slow, and we pull alongside a rather expensive Jag with a grey haired driver at the wheel, Yes it was the man himself!
So two lunatics in a scooby annoyed the life out of him constantly shouting "guv" for the rest of the slow journey home into London
He was getting a bit peeved with us but I hope he took in good spirit, he was smoking a hell of a lot so perhaps he was a bit irritated!
God Bless U John, and thanks for the Sweeney

The Sweeney absolutely brilliant stuff (apart from the pilot which was dire - strange that). Nothing since has come close to it. Didn't like him in anything else though, bit like David Jason really. A pity he should pass away relatively young.

I couldn't beleive the opening comment on the news.
"John Thaw is dead"
I could have thought of a thousand more compassionate ways to announce his death. Personally, I thought he was a great actor, a true englishman, and a great loss to the acting community.
His last performance in "The Glass" was excellent.
Regards
Kurt
