Richer Sounds do a few from £80-90 pounds upwards. The one to go for is the Acoustic Solutions DVD551 it's for £119.95. It plays all formats i.e CD.DVD(multi-region),CDR,CDRW,VCD,SVCD & MP3.
It's got a scart socket, digital and s-video.
It's not too bad a looker too.
Try Try Here
Hope that helps.

Robby,
The world is split up into regions for DVD sales. Just like US games will not play on a UK playstation, US DVDs will not play on a UK DVD player unless it is region hackable or chipped.
Region 1 is USA and Canada
Region 2 Europe and Japan
Region 3 Hong Kong and parts of SE Asia
Region 4 Australia, New Zealand and other parts of SE Asia
Region 5 and 6 ???????
All UK players are sold as Region 2 only (this is for legal reasons) but most budget players are region hackable with a simple code entered via the romote control handset.
Films tend to come out sooner on Region 1, are cheaper and have better extra features and maybe fewer cuts. However, you need a TV that can cope with an NTSC signal to see them in colour.
Also some films are Region 0. This means they will play on machines anywhere in the world without having to hack the machine.

They are selling a Region Free DVD/VCD/CD/MP3 player in Safeways at the mo. Didnt see the price the other day when i was there.
I bought a Labway Xwave 1000 that is a region 0, DVD/VCD/S-VCD/CD/MP3/Karaoke (dont laugh) player. Wicked machine.

So, excuse my stupidity, but DVD's with a region 0, WILL play on a European Playstation 2 (plays region 2) .
Don't recommend Playstation 2 as a DVD player - it's okay but hardly top of the range. It plays some nice games though!!!!

Robby,
Check the player that it plays all formats that you want (i.e. svcd,vcd,mp3 - these are file types) the more the better.
A standard DVD player from this country will play a CD and a region 2 (seee Sean G's note) DVD.
A multi-region player will play (multiple regions - hence name). These have either been 'chipped' (a modification to the motherboard) or can be 'hacked' by changing the region code using the remote control.
It's not worth buying the most expensive player. Remember , these are only players, so they do not record!.
Recordable DVD players IMHO are currently too expensive, are still (first generation) in there early days and the blank disks are far too much money.
