Deep Fat Fryer Going Nuts
Here's something that I can't figure out and hope that the power of Scoobynet can come up with a logical explanation.
We use a deep fat fryer to cook our chips, scampi, mars bars , etc. It's a simple affair with a temp control and a timer. Once we've finished using it we unplug it at the wall and leave it simmering/sizzling to cool whilst we eat our tea. However, occasionally it goes nuts again 10 minutes or so after it has been turned off. There is no source of power so no new energy is getting to the fryer or the fat. However, the activity in the fat increases considerably, it bubbles like crazy and makes that deep 'pinging' noise you hear when there is food cooking in it.
What on earth could cause this? How can it quietly cool and dissipate energy and then suddenly show a considerable increase in activity conducive with more energy being applied to it?
....explain

Just out of interest, what oil are you using? Corn oil is supposed to be best as it deosn't chemically change at high tempertures like sunflower etc.
I tried rapeseed too but it tasted like sh*t

Nah, the fat bubbles up and becomes very active again. It's like the element is back on at full blast and their is food cooking in there. It's totally weird. I know its sad and geeky but I really want to know why it happens
