Any youd recommend. Normally drink Illy but found last tin overly bitter.

Mellow Birds

Or anything with Chicory!

(Last three weekends for me have been Waitrose French Dark Roast, we usually have different every weekend but it's been so nice, we stuck with it.)

Lavazza espresso is very good imho.

Great coffees are Java, Brazillian Santos, San Cristobal (Galapagos Islands), Kona (Hawaii) and of course the fabled Blue Mountain...although it's not worth the money.

Coffee is also very subjective. You need to find what you like because I guarantee it won't always be the same as others.

H. R. Higgins (Coffee-man) Ltd :: Home Page ‹ Welcome to H. R. Higgins (Coffee-man) Ltd. is as good as any place to buy, but you have to be 'in to' your coffee to appreciate it.

Had some Rwandan and some Ghanaian coffee recently (bought for us by friends who have been out there) - VERY nice indeed.

lol, can I buy one of your old ones then? I don't think the OP will be spending over £300 on a coffee maker. Krupps, De Longhi e.t.c have their place and still produce good coffee.

Good coffee shops also use 'traditional' coffee makers, so how much difference do they really make? I'm genuinely interested.

well quite a few of our friends either have one now, or think that I make the best coffee in the world, and ask for one as soon as they walk in the door (I dont btw, but like a previous poster has said, coffee's pretty personal)

but to answer you question -- it makes the best coffee, interestingly as i said my Father-in-law has one as does my brother-in-law, but I think mine makes better coffee lol

DE red through a Krups filter coffee machine. Easy but a great taste. Hmmmmm

I'd recommend Krups any day, as my machine has probably brewed an average of 3 pots a day for nearly 5 years!!

the bitterness is down to temperature every coffee has a sweet spot and 1/2 a degree can make a difference. Some brands of machine work better with different brands of coffee as they heat the water to slightly different temps. I know this as a bloke was trying to sell me some coffee once and I told him it tasted too bitter, he adjusted the temp by half a degree hit the sweet spot and it tasted great afterwards.

Once you've made yourself a few good lattes, you won't go back to instant...it becomes undrinkable! I've converted three of my mates now

I really do recommend products from this firm - it's strong but not bitter and also not over caffeinated:

Goodafrican - Home

I just use a cafetiere (£6 from Tesco!) and have espressos when I eat/drink out. I use about four times the recommended amount of coffee though! Used many home machines and yet to find any that do the job properly.

How much milk do you put in them? I find them mostly too milky and dilutes the coffee.

I like a cappucino with just the froth and minimal hot milk. Or an espresso after dinner.
