My dog has moved out!!
We have a four year old black labrador who has always lived with us in the kitchen/diner in his basket.
He has always been playful, docile and obedient.
We also have a large courtyard, completely fenced that he plays in and also had a large kennel that he has never used for more than about five minutes.
Last weekend he moved out, of his own volition, into his kennel. Even at night when it is freezing he will not come in the house. I call him, he pokes his head out and goes back in again. He only wants to come in for food, or if we want to go into the posh lounge where he has another basket.
Any thoughts - we are not aware that we have changed anything.
Mad dogs and all that...
...Spooky indeed!

seems like something has made him nervous to leave his kennel which he feel protected in.
my yorkie dog is from animal rescue and was beated by a tosser. when we had her she wud hide in corners of rooms, under tables, behind settee, wud only eat when me n misses left room.
in the end we took the dog everywhere with us, in car, to bed, bath room. she eventually felt comfy and now lays about the hse anywhere, like she owns it, lol
does he bark at all, or loosing weight, still active? is the dog stressed?
mayb a phone call to local vets or better still a visit.

He is very active - and everything seems normal except he has moved out. He still wants his two walks a day (we have a large field he runs around in). He also walks with my next door neighbour's dogs, and when we are away he sleeps in an outdoor kennel next door.
Energy levels are high, however he is nervous of his own normal basket.
He is on very low dose of long term steroids for a digestive tract problem - when he first started taking them he was a bit more barky but now seems back to his usual dopey self.
Oh, my wife thinks the kitchen is less smelly with him outside. He seems perfectly happy other than his sleeping arrangements!

YOu could have had a visit from a fox, which may have scent marked the kennel, and he now feels the need to guard his territory

Are the neighbours dogs b1tches? And do they sleep in the garden? He may just be wanting to get closer to them if they are on heat.
Or you could just buy him a new basket and see how he responds

When he does come in make a big fuss of him then he wouldn't want to go outside if you make a fuss
My lab is just as mad her basket in in the dining room we have doors off the living room that she just pushes open and goes and sits in her basket when she's allowed in the living room with us.
Dogs are odd creatures

Whenever he goes in his overnight basket he gets a treat, he gets a fuss made of him when he comes in...
...I have just let him out for his bedtime wee, he had a wee and went straight into his kennel. His kennel is back to the fence where his mates sleep - they are both dogs though.
My next door neighbour said that he had noticed a rush of man dog behaviour recently even though he has had his nadgers off!
