Now's the time to bag your dream car
"They say every cloud has a silver lining and the dark recession cloud currently hanging over us could see some people driving the silver motor of their dreams.
It's no surprise that the automotive market is in disarray with luxury cars being hit harder than most; a one-year-old luxury car is worth 20 per cent less today than a one-year-old luxury car this time last year.
Here are the top ten cars you've always dreamed of, but thought you couldn't afford:
Aston Martin V8 Vantage ('06 model) - from £38k
While £38k may not be exactly accessible, it's still peanuts compared to the £80k+ one of these will cost you new; bearing in mind it is many people's dream car perhaps it is a small price to pay.
Audi RS4 - £29k
For a £50k performance car, the RS4 sold in relatively large numbers, which means there are plenty around now with prices starting at a cool £29k.
BMW 6 Series - £14k
These cars may have started life at well over £50,000, but you can now step into a 2003 model for £14k.
BMW M3 - £10k
You can have the 2006 BMW M3 on your drive from only £10k. That must make this the performance bargain of the century.
Ferrari 575 Maranello - £46k
For the price you'd be doing well to find another car that will speed you across countries as effortlessly and graciously as this, whilst still looking at home outside the Fairmont in Monaco.
Jaguar XJ diesel - £13k
The only let-down is the Fisher-Price naff graphics on the control system; quibbles aside, you're getting a whole lot of car from 2005, from just £13k.
Porsche Cayman - £20k
Try one out; you will wonder why anyone bothers with the cost of a 911.
Range Rover Sport – £18k
Range Rover Sport prices are dropping incredibly quickly; £18k will get you a diesel and £15k will get you into a new-shape Range Rover.
Volkswagen Golf R32 - £13.5k
Sold in relatively low numbers, the R32 previously costed £25k new but can now be bought second hand from £13,500.
Volkswagen Touareg - £9k
This level-headed 4x4 can be yours for just £9,000, which gets you a 2003 2.5 diesel. It won't be the fastest car in the world but it will give you 30mpg, big comfortable seats and a swish interior"

I'm keeping a close eye on classic car values. There are no modern cars that i would want to own for more than 6 months but there are plenty of classics that i would happily keep for many years....and if the prices keep dropping i'm sure with the right model choice i could do so without it costing me any money at all in the long-run.
None of the cars mentioned above will ever hold their value or be desirable/worth a premium though except maybe the 550/575

I predict £10K S3 e-types soon for one, in fact there are one or two good examples already for sale for that. I'd also be interested in early 911's and even 912's, MKII's, Lotus Elan, DB6's, Various US import classics will fall a lot imo, Citroen DS, Mercedes SL Pagodas, Frogeye Sprites, 3000s .......how long you got

They have always been pretty high on their pricing ..... I've seen cars there for over 24 months, unsold.
I think it is a hobby for the owner rather than a real business, I don't see much turnover.

I think the prices have hit the bottom, they wont go back up but I suspect they wont fall as far or as fast, people will see the chance to get into something nice for not much money so this will stimulate some interest (and more knuckle draggers in big off roaders), people will realise that a three cyclinder diesel supermini is not much fun, fuel is cheap, the tax rise delayed so I think things may stabilise, just depends on whether anyone has the money, for those that have, its open season !

Have to say, diesel cars get right on my pap.Hope this premium over petrols comes to an end.
TBH labour and the greens have ruined the car market.
Which is what they(greens) wanted.Labour I think just thought we were all loaded and would pay huge VED hikes no matter what.Bleedin £1200 showroom taxes and all that rubbish as well.
Well we won't.As a result, thousands of people in the car industry will lose their jobs. But yes,I suppose there will be cheap cars out there to buy (I'll never buy a new one )

Well I had the chance of a brand new unregistered new M3 with around £8k of extras on it for £44k before Christmas. That was a whopping £12k off list. I am sure if I had got my cash out on the spot it might have been £42k for a handshake.
So bargains are to be had.

I watch the car market closely. I decided the best time to buy was the end of November so took the plunge then. Values have not really moved since then, so at the moment I am very happy. If anything I think the increase in demand for certain cars might firm prices back up again, not by much but there were some silly cheap motors to be had just before xmas.
