Land of leather
Sorry if this has been discussed before.
Anyways, In Oct I ordered some sofas from land of leather, No special deal, no sale just regular sofas. They said at the time that they will be with me this month and to call the first week of January to get a date.
I called today and they told me that the sofas had not yet been made and they did not expect them to leave Sweden until the 23rd. They then have to go through shipping, customs, delivery to there depot, then I can have a delivery date. The attitude on the phone was "it takes as ling as it takes, count yourself lucky we have sold you sofas"
I am looking at mid to late Feb before I see the sofas, So my question is, Do you think I would be reasonable to cancel the order? Do you think this is an exceptable delay?
At the moment I would rather cancel the order and wait 16 weeks to get sofas from another company than give my money to a company that in times like this still see's fit to put customer service on the back burner.

Get your money back asap mate
Land of Leather shares plunge as bid talks terminated - Telegraph
Safer to have it in your bank, any retailer that needs to take money upfront doesn't deserve to be in business.

Tell them to stick the Sofas .
They will be lucky to be in business in 16 weeks .
Plenty of other places to get a sofa from .
Only trouble is when you decide which one you want ,you tend to not want any other .

I keep reading about land of leather in "which retailers are likely to go bust next" sort of articles! They are not in the best financial health.
I'd get your money back mate!

Get your money back as they can take ages to deliver if it is not in their warehouse already.
If they are looking a little rocky then you should get it back anyway and go somewhere else.
That said we had our settees from them last year and didn't suffer any major problems with them.

I am going to look at the delivery time for my argument, I will use reasonable as in the legal definition "what a normal person of sound mind would deem reasonable" and see if that can help me find a default in there side of the sales contract.
I had a bad feeling when we ordered them........ The sales man was acting like gill from the Simpsons.

As an ex 4 year employee of Land of Leather, allow me to give you my input:-
Land of leather is nothing to do with World of leather, which was actually owned by Uno. Land of leather was already trading (In a much smaller capacity than they do today) before World of leather went bump. Land of leather rented a shop in Cheetham Hill near Manchester that used to be rented by World of leather. Some people claimed it was the same company.
A few years ago, some of the guys who had worked for World of leather joined Land of leather at board level having invested quite heavily. Again, some people thought that it was the same company.
When World of leather went bust, only people who had paid cash/debit card/cheque lost their money. Most customers were actually on finance or credit card.
IMHO, if you pay up front in cash you are asking for trouble. Anything that costs more than £50, credit card should be used for indemnity.
Delivery is charged as LOL use subcontractors to deliver from their main warehouses (Leeds/Coventry/Kent IIRC) and you can collect the suite from the warehouse if you choose, but the charge for delivery to your local branch is the same as delivery to your home. The reason for this is that vans, drivers, insurance, public liability, MOT, servicing costs millions per year.
Land of leather get the majority of their furniture from China/Thailand etc. and the quality is actually quite good for the price, and the reason that the staff level customer services is not very good is simply because they genuinely don't know the answers to the customers questions. Most branches don't even have a manager!
At the end of the day, the reason most people buy from LOL is that they are the cheapest suites. Unfortunately, cheapest is never best when it comes to customer services!
AFA cancelling is concerned, f you put in writing to them that you are "making time of the essence" and give them "28 days" to supply the furniture to your home address or you wish to claim the full refund of any payment you have made due to breach of contract, you should be OK.
Don't forget to send the letter recorded delivery and keep a copy!!
