On-spot fines for drivers involved in small shunts | News

it seems the government isn't making enough money from the Congestion Charge or Speed cameras anymore so are thinking of new ways to getting even more money out of us.

"Because of a fall in the number of convictions for poor driving the Government is believed to want to make it easier for the police to penalise drivers"

When was the last time you were involved in a minor shunt and there actually were any police around? If the police don't see the accidents (and they very seldom do) then it's just not going to happen.

Hmmmmmmmmmm, they don't have to actually SEE it, they arrive later, look at the result, make up their own minds and someone can be prosecuted.

I know of someone who braked on a slippery road, lost control and rolled his car down an embankment. Police arrived, no drink, drugs or other vehicles involved.
Two months later, he's charged with DWDCA.

It's not just spot fines for small accidents, labour are also proposing a £60 fine and 3 points for any instance of driving without due care and attention which will include eating/drinking/smoking at the wheel, having an arguement, tuning the radio, using h/f mobile etc.

Now the police only being human and taking the easy option to make target will only have to wait up, watch everyone go by and then go and nick um. They will be able to make a full time living out of it. I mean how many people do you see every day doing this kind of thing and let's be honest we've all been guilty of some of the examples given at one time or another.

It's just another labour stealth tax to screw more money out of the motorist.

So in this case they'd get a lesser penalty under the new proposal than they actually likely to get?

And in twenty years I've managed to never slide off the road, no matter what the weather conditions, so DC&A would seem accurate?
