Toyota in big trouble !!
22nd Dec Reuters announcement
Toyota have announced grave concern with huge loses for the first time in it's 70 yr history.
Losses over the last 12 months have been 150 million Yen, that's £ 1.1 Billion !!
They must be looking at pulling out of F1 surely ?

Id be very surprised if they stayed in F1 with all the costs involved, they will probably follow the sad trend occuring with manufacturers leaving motorsports, Honda, Subaru etc

Considering the only car in their current UK model line up that I'd be tempted to buy is a Land Cruiser V8, and I wouldn't buy that either because I don't own a horse/giant caravan and I'm not stupid enough.
Surely I can't be the only person to have that impression that nearly all of Toyota's current cars are utterly dull and bland. The only glimmer of hope was when they made the Aygo-Crazy (mid engined RWD Aygo with manual steering and no electronic driver aids ). But its only a concept car, what a waste!
Make something interesting to drive and visually inspirational, otherwise It'll bye bye Toyota

My mum and dad bought a Civic over the Avensis. They had an old Avensis and they said the interior hadn't changed in 10 years. The salesman called it "familiar" which meant it hadn't been updated....
The Yaris is a good car, but way over priced for a small car really.

Manufacturers have pumped millions into sports to produce cars that, quite frankly, have NOTHING to do with those on the road.
That support needs to go before their support for those actually buying their cars does so.

This is their 2nd profit warning this year. They're not immune to the problems facing car manufacturing globally, but at least they're still on to make a profit (overall) unlike some.
The current Toyota range is pretty gash at the moment. Yaris, Auris, Avensis (pass, pass, pass) or "gas guzzling" 4x4 (er...nope)

Toyota have been struggling from around this time last year. A lot of lay offs at the Derby plant and cuts in production. Night shift was cancelled not so long ago on the Auris line. I can't say I've seen a new Avensis on the road yet but remember the first coming off the production line.

A bit of lateral thinking is needed here.
Gordon Brown to promise the Indian Govt a £100m or whatever to sort out their national security on the promise that they put the squeeze on Tata to pump a similar amount into their own company, Toyota UK. Tata could also be asked to nobble the Indian cricket team

If their loss over 12 months is 1.1mil, then I don't think Toyota are going to be that worried. That amount to them is less than pennies.
If it's 1.1bil, they might need to lay off the advertising for a while. After all, motorsport is absolutely nothing but advertising your brand.

Yeah heard about this from my previous place where I worked, they lost a £1 mil in mismanaged projects and car sales and rumours were about that Toyota were set to lose 16k people worldwide eventually... how true that is I don't know but it's look like a tough time for everyone.
How worse will it get, I dread think what it will be like this time next year

Sorry mate. you are correct. It was 150 billion yen, not 150 million.
Cut & Pasted from Reuters
"Toyota cut its group operating forecast to a loss of 150 billion yen (1.2 billion pounds) for the year to end-March, after shocking financial markets last month by slashing its group operating profit forecast by 1 trillion yen to 600 billion yen.
It made a record profit of 2.27 trillion yen last year."

So if they made a profit of 2.2 Trillion Yen last year, have they put some aside to pay for the losses now?
I've always wondered this about house builders.
Over the last 8 years or so they've mostly made massive profits.
What's happened to it all?
Surely it can't all go to pay dividends to the shareholders, can it?

When I worked at Honda in Swindon in the mid-90's there was over capacity in the industry then. Here in Australia the federal govn't has handed the national car maker, Holden, AU$180mil (More corporate welfare) to build a "fuel efficient" car. Toyota were also given AU$32mil some time back to build a hybrid. Something stinks rotten!

Toyota build ****e boring cars end of.
What ever happened to the MR2, Supra, Celica GT4 etc. etc?
Even in Australia, where they love Toyotas, they have stopped their TRD range.....
Toyota dumps TRD - drive.com.au
