Tony Blair's chief scientific adviser has apparently called for a complete ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel-powered cars to tackle climate change.

Professor David King says that Britain should follow the example of Lombardy which is to ban the sale of fossil-fuel powered cars from 1 January 2005.

His remarks are apparently the first time any government adviser has advocated such a tough policy on car use.



(Obviously motor manufacturers haven't been donating enough to the Labour Party coffers then )
