Piece in papers today about the most dangerous roads ....
Rural A-roads are the most dangerous with the risk of fatal and serious crashes frequently higher than on motorways, according to study by the Transport Research Laboratory. In contrast, 13 of the 20 safest roads were motorways.
The top 20 are:

A4137 Between A49 and A40, Herefordshire
A628 A616-Penistone, S. Yorkshire

A682 M56 J13 - A65 Long Preston, N. Yorkshire
A5 Daventry - M1 J18, Northants
A99 Wick - A9m nr Latheron, Highlands
A1 London North Circular - M1 J2
A82 Tyndrum - Tarbet, Highlands
A54 Buxton - Congleton, Cheshire
A5223 M54 - A442, at Wellington, Shropshire
A1065 Swaffham - Fakenham, Norfolk

Me too. I'm a Macc lad. The A537 Macclesfield-Buxton road (otherwise known as the Cat & Fiddle) is an absolute classic, but has gained a reputation thanks to hundereds of bikers coming from all over the place to ride the road, many of whom have sadly come to grief. Now very heavily policed, especially on sunny Sundays.
I don't think I've been on the No. 1 road, somehow 
Must make a conscious effort to drive it the next time I have a car, see if it obvious why. Having just seen pictures of it on the news, and it is hardly a surprise, single lanes with blind crests (and corners), not normally a good combination.
There is absolutely no reason for the A99 to be dangerous, I have driven it hundreds of times, and never considered it to be a danger to road users.
The A82 is only dangerous to stupid drivers, I use it on a fairly regular basis, and half the drivers appear to have had an intelligence bypass (thou shalt not overtake brigade).
I am very confused as to how the A96 managed to avoid being listed, as IMHO is far worse than others on the list.
father jack, yep seen those signs, the A1 is even worse for them, there seemed to be a sign every couple of miles, I was beginning to wonder if anyone ever made it off the road alive

If this is the survey that the AA have claimed to have done (all news channels, today!), then the results are based on the road's length, number of vehicles and number of accidents - so plenty of room for playing with statistics!!!
Anyone know the raw data (such as accidents per mile per million vehicles etc.)?
