Plymouth Argyle Football Supporters - PASOTI - View topic - IMPORTANT: Fans effected by Section 27/SY Police

The Football Supporters' Federation - Policing of Stoke fans raises serious concerns

It amazes me on some crimes such as domestic violence the police are not allowed to act until something has happened, yet they can turn coach loads of football supports who have purchased a ticket and travelled hundreds of miles around.

Football is policed outside the normal laws of the land. Any offence that is committed in day to day life will not get a comparable sentence if committed in the realms of a football ground or relation to a match. It helped solve the problem we had with football hooligans but the problem is now that it's all too easy to be caught up in something and in no time you're facing the courts. The police know the courts will always back them in these cases.

I think you will find these powers pre-date the Labour Govt. so you should blame the Daily Mail-reading, nanny-stating, micro-managing Tories.

This is not completely true. Police forces have a thing called Positive action in place when it comes to domestic violence, It is one of the few violent crimes they can take action even without the victim making a complaint.

Secondly, Until we know ALL the intelligence that the police have about situations Im not sure if a tabloid style review of something is full of all the correct facts.

Ok, Thats me for this one, I now open myself to all the anti police people on the site who will bamboozle me with fonts of opinion that has somehow over time become fact.

It started with the Football Spectators' Act 1989.

Who was in power isn't really relevant as the various acts stop idiots smashing property up, and innocent people.

Football's popularity has increased massively since this was introduced, so can't be a bad thing. Unless you're a weekend warrior that likes a fight for no apparent reason?

It's the same as most things, like male bias. The pendulum has swung and now we have BLATANT female bias, but can anyone do anything about it? No.

As for footy fans, I've been one for years, occasionally caught up in trouble, but never an instigator.

All I can say is that the present police, (and some club stewards), treatemnt of fans is utterly appalling. I can personally relate at least THREE cases where police officers have lied and fans have had to pay £80 fines or risk getting it increased in court. TWO of them had CCTV evidence proving the police as liars, but guess what? It disappeared The other could disprove the police because of time anomalies, but lost in court anyway

I have further personally witnessed stories of heavy-handedness, abuse, both verbal and physical of fans etc etc.

TBH, I think that when the day comes, and civil disobedience does break out, this sort of policing will just add to it.

Its not about Labour vs Conservative. Those two governments pretty much have had full control over this country since i can remember and they both have the same agenda wrapped up in slightly different, sometimes insignificantly different policies.

The bottom line and in answer to the original question is: Little by little.

New laws, powers or whatever you want to call them have been brought it in nano-sized chunks to control the population so you cant fart without breaking some obscure law.

If you could only introduce new laws every 12 months i think you get a shock at how many come in and how much of your liberty is taken away.

The fact it happens regularly, you lose aspect of exactly whats happening.

Its like, watching someone grow up. If you live with them, you dont see the changes happening, but if you bump into someone you dont see very often, you get a shock at how much they have changed.

I think all the power local councils have been given over the years, and the distinct lack of any sense in 'enforcing' their powers is the more worrying thing.

It's this section 27 which worries me, now I'm not some hooligan who likes kicking off. But I would like to make a day out of an away match if your spending that sort of money to support your team. I would like to get the train have a couple of beers see a bit of another city and have a day off.

I dont think its right that after spending in the region of £100 when people have travelled hundreds of miles they get turned away and sent home without seeing a game or the pretense that they might cause some trouble. Nor do I want to spend money and be hearded into a game told to sit down shut up and then be hearded out.

I can sort of understand this policing if there was a history of trouble or rivalry, but what the hell have Plymouth and Doncaster got against each other? nothing.

I agree with that completely. The whole thing is becoming a major cause for concern.

An element of Sheffield United supporters certainly make the most noise. Im confident that the blue and white side of the city can take a nastier turn though, although Im not proud of it.
