Default Good North Warwickshire plumber anyone

Combi Boiler has gone t#ts up tonight so no heating or hot water......

It's an old one and looks like i'll need a new one.........and have been advised this the last time it went wrong...

So are there any decent plumbers out there who are not likely to rip me off

Just so you know, some boilers are harder to diagnose & fix then others. Plumbers dont like a difficult job so will recommend a new boiler saying your present one is FUBAR.
Then they dont have to mess about with your old one, but get the high profit job of fitting a new one.

Just be aware that with modern condensing boilers you may need a new gas supply to the boiler as well as other mods and improvements. Its not just the plumber trying to rip you off, its a legal requirement.

And its a Gas Fitter you want, not just a plumber. There is a difference, although you will get a gas fitter who is also works as a plumber.

I am on the Northants/Warks border and have a very good plumber

J.E Hood Tel: (01295) 660790

When I bought my house I had storage heaters, 4 or 5 years ago did a big refit, rewire etc and decided to put central heating in as well. James gave the lowest quote and was the only plumber not to suck through his teeth when I explained I didn't want any surface mounted pipes.

I was nervous at first as his quote was the cheapest but in the end he was the only plumber who could work in the time frame that fitted in with everything else so he got the job.

Never regretted it, did a fantastic job and his customer back up in the last 5 years has been first rate.

If he will go out as far you I can't recommend him highly enough.

Sorry but when your user name is RobinSherwood AKA Robin of Sherwood AKA Robin Hood and you recommend a plumber called HOOD it suggests to me you are the plumber or are related to them!

Doesn't look good and makes me think "why try to decieve?"

I could be wrong, but its a bit of a coincidence don't you think?

If I am wrong then I'm very sorry and the mods can delete my post.

Thank you for that I shall give him a call tomorrow, sounds a good-un.

Thanks to the rest of you for your comments and advice.

The boiler does have the new 19mm gas supply so will not require a new one

And its an Ariston Euro Combi

Cheers

Ariston Eurocombi - are fully fixable, parts are readily available and not overly expensive either so replacing it might be false economy!

And read my post regarding the user name to plumber name connection, just be aware of it.

You'll need a 22mm supply for a condensing combi or possibly 28mm if a long run from the meter with lots of bends.

19mm pipe? Most probably needs changing, sorry!

Think you're in Bedworth so call into Warners Plumbing & Heating Supplies
on Marston Lane and ask them for advice and/or to recommend a local gas fitter. They deal with the guys an a regular basis and know who the cowboys are, who are expensive, who are reasonable etc.

Thanks for that I will pop by tomorrow, when the engineer came out before he gave me all sorts of negatives in relation to fix-able items its really not that old so I would expect there to be an ease of serviceable parts available.

Bedworth......how do you know that.....have you seen me around...

If you can, describe me the problem / fault you have with the boiler as best you can.
I might be able to give you a rough idea of whats wrong.

Good god i'm so dam dim at times....and I wasn't a blonde either..

Right then, for some reason the boiler works once left off for a while and continues to pump away hot water and heating, however when the thermostat reaches room temp the boiler switches off as it should then will not re-start once the room has cooled down, the pump runs for a while then the boiler shuts down and shows a red light. at this point I turn all power off and leave it for an hour or two..then 9 times out of 10 its starts back up and pumps away fine until it reaches room temp.

Something is telling me that it maybe over heating or something though if i leave the stat turned up to around 20/20% it stay's on and switches between heating and pumping as normal operation.......

It's likely to be a switch or relay somewhere or even a bad connection with something.

Water level is fine and all appears as normal until 'room' stat kicks in then won't re-start for a while

Assuming you can rule out the stat for causing the fault (had that before) then it could be an anti cycling device, or overheat cut off or, well few things.

I'll have a look for a pdf manual . . . . . .

Is this the manual for your boiler:

PDF MANUAL HERE

If so check out the fault finding section, they can often point you in the right direction.

or try this one as it looks to be better quality: HERE

Even if they're not the exact ones they might give you an idea, then you'll know if the gas fitter is feeding you BS!

Yes you are very wrong. It is my user name and real name.

It was a genuine recommendation for good work done and good friendly service.

Hi Robin / Wagrain

I have managed to sort the problem quite sometime back now by a reputable plumbing & heating engineer from Leamington Spa, all I can say is that it was money well spent and top service given.

Thanks for your advice & information.

Phil
