Gangster films...
I'm not much of a film buff, but I generally enjoy a good ganster film. Usual plot to with gorey violence, drug misuse and a dirty slapper or two.
Anyways, what are your examples of good gangster films. Can be modern or oldies as long as they fit in the catagory gangster films.
My choices are...
******
Lock Stock
Essex Boys
Layer Cake
The Krays
American Gangster
Probably missed loads of good un's out, so enlighten me

Godfather I and 2 and Goodfellas are the benchmark of the genre.
Mean Streets and Casino are also both excellent - Scorcese again
For British films try Lock Stock, ****** and Rise of the Foot Soldier - all excellent, but the best British gangster flicks by far are The Long Good Friday and of course Get Carter.
Sexy Beast and The Business are also pretty good Brit movies touching on the gangster genre too.
The Final Cut and Love, Honour and Obey are also worth a mention as is The Departed ... Scorcese yet again
Not forgetting The Sopranos..... ah, see above

See a common theme here f1_fan
The Long Good Friday is a classic, and by Get Carter you are talking about the original of course
Never could bring myself to watch the Sopranos for some reason, and I cant believe even now I still haven't seen the Godfather Trilogy
And I do like a good Gangster Flick too

If you like gangster films then see it you must - ignore the hype and the fact it is 35 years old and just watch what amounts to cinematic perfection.
Oh and as for Get Carter I refuse to acknowledge the mess that Stallone's version was.
Get Carter is Michael Caine's finest moment. "You're a big man, but you're out of shape. With me it's a full time job. Now behave yourself."

Godfather films are quite good gangster films IMO. Depiction of family culture with mama n' papa values (specially in Godfather films with Italian mafias) in contrast with the gangsters' own moral values/business ethics is fascinating in such films. American Gangster was very cleverly fimed with similar contrast.
I was Googling Andy Garcia pics the other night for 84's thread. He has changed so much over the years!

You are lucky as you have some of the finest moments ever committed to celluloid still to enjoy when you eventually watch The Godfather.
