We had to have our cat put to sleep tonight.
For the second time in 5 months, we have had to take the heartbreaking decision to put a much loved pet to sleep.
Our cat, Kizzi, hasn't been well for the past month or so, having little seizures - the vets did blood tests and found she had renal disease. They put her on tablets which seemed to help a little - until last night. During last night she had 13 fits. I was on the phone to the vets at 2am, who because of the extremely short time length of each fit ( a few seconds) wasn't too worried, but said if she continued to fit, to take her in this morning.
We saw the vet at 9am, and she had perked up a bit in the car ( we think from the adrenaline as she hated cars ). He prescribed diazepam liquid which he told us to give her when she had a 'major fit' - the minor ones werent a concern. When we got her home she deteriorated again, and had only very minor fits until about 6:30pm tonight, when she had a big one. We then gave her the diazepam - which were **** liquid shots in a squishy tube thing ( which stressed her & us out!!), but she continued fitting. I phoned the vet again, and the decision was taken to have her put to sleep. She went 1.5 hours ago.
I know we made the right decision, as she was obivously being more and more affected by each seizure. The vet has said he thinks it may have been something more serious going on in the brain.
I can't believe both my babies have gone within 5 mths of each other, first my dog, and now my cat. I am truly devestated.
Sleep peacefully, my pretty-kitty.

Hi LG.
So sorry to hear this but you definately made the correct decision.
I'll be in bits when Laurel or Hardy or Max have to be put to sleep but it is really the kindest thing to do.
A friend of mine had a pet put to sleep this year after 18 years !!!! They were absolutely in pieces (not normal state of affairs - normally quite tough)
8 months later - they are considering getting a new pet - perhaps a rescue!
I don't think I could have a home without pets now. They are such a source of entertainment / exercise - They should be on the NHS for oldsters !!!

Condolences. Always a painful decision, but you did the right thing by a friend when they needed you to be strong for them. Be proud of that, take comfort in the good times you shared and treasure the memories. Time will take care of the rest.

Thanks guys. We buried her this morning, next to my other cat and our Boxer Jessie. They kind of grew up together.
