Default House Valuations

How do they charge for these? Is it relative to the estimated value?

I've just got charged £615 for a one page report with about ten words on it

I got mine free with my remortgage. No fees and a good rate tracker.

I don't think I've ever paid for a valuation.

If it is for a mortgage quote then it is a paid for service, although most do a 'drive-by-valuation' these days and the mortgage company picks up the bill.

You're from Liverpool?

Are you sure that £615 isn't the valuation of your house

I believe quite a bit is the indemnity risk if it goes pear shaped?

It is indeed. My dad's a valuer and if they don't notice that the roof is about to fall on your head, they're liable.

They are only liable if the punter pays a couple of grand for a full structural survey.

600 quid sounds like a homebuyers survey on an averageish house or a mortgage valuation on a house around 700-800k - punter has no comeback on surveyor in either case
