You don't get this on a car commute!
I decided to cycle in yesterday morning, 'cos it was LOVELY
Cycling down the now infamous bridleway was just fantastic again - Sun shining through the trees, beautiful blue sky, FRESH air... me warm and comfy in the saddle - empty bridleway in front of me and cars a very distance murmur.
Ahhh..... bliss.....
I get to the first of the bridlegates which is the main cow crossing for the local farm and there's this cow waiting at the crossing, all on its tod just stood there chewing the cud.
Me in daft mood ('cos it was LOVELY) say "Morning Cow!"
Cow looked right at me... "MOO!" in a friendly sort of way
"How are you then cow?" says I
Cow looked at me again: "Moooo!"
"Nice day isn't it?" I say, as it was
"M ooooo, Mooooo!!" says the cow, clearly enjoying the morning sunshine.
I'm through the gates now and hop on the bike with a cheery "See You!"
"MooooMoooooMmmmmooooo!!!" comes from the Cow.
I swear the bovine beasty did not make one noise unless I spoke to it first
You bleeding car types just don't get this type of commute - I bet you're jealous
It was a spectacuarly good commute in yesterday, only spoiled slightly by my lack of stamina due to Man Flu. (first day back after 3 off). Cars were friendly and gave me room, Schoolkids kept out the way, roads were pretty clear - even the Taxi driver *I* got in the way of let me through with a smile!!!
The ride home was just as good. The first night in full darkness as I left work late. The unlit bridleway was no problem due to my REALLY bright front light, clear, crisp evening - quiet roads all the way as the rush hour was over.
I did look for my cow friend but she'd gone

cycled into today myself- just had fingerless gloves on in the rain.
I was friesen
(actually thats true)
funnily enough was out MTB on monday night- was crossing narrow bridge-
really dark, no lights, trees handing over- all dead spooky..... shadows everywhere due to the bike lights.
and there was a badger in the middle of the bridge looking at me- scared me for a minute till it bounced away and off to the side of the bridge !
lovely to see though.

Yes, cycling is great, it would be even better if there were no cars, it kind of spoils your amble along a single track country lane when you are waiting for the 50 mph BMW with the driver on the phone whilst fannying with the sat nav, you have to do your concentration and vigilance as well as enough to cover all manner of clueless pillocks, I am surprised how patient and courteous some drivers are, however, you can never let your guard down and can only hope if you make a mistake they are watching.
My cow related story wasnt so pleasant, I got cornered and wanged one with my helmet to send it on its way !

Please tell me that wanged where you are, means the same as it does here and doesn't have sexual connotations. 'cos if you had to **** a cow to get away I don't need to know that.

If I had to steak my reputation on it, I'd think this stories a load of bull. Mind you, one thing about cycling is you get good definition in your calf muscles. Do you live near 'uddersfield?
