cat protection league lose £11.2m with Icelandic bank!!
anyone else hear this today?
CPL have £11.2m in savings!!!!
so why do people waste a saturady afternoon selling tat & cr@p at a village fayre to raise £12 pounds when £11.2million will generate more interest in a year than your weirdo cat loving neighbour who tries to sell you a book mark!!
mind you the £11.2m is only £50k.... so you better buy two book marks now

Folk like the CPL are favourites for, well, the mad old cat lady to will their estate to though. They probably can't spend it fast enough!

totally agree, my dad used to be on the local commitee of the RNLI, he said the same about how much people left them in their WILL, doing raffels at the pub is a 'drop in the ocean' (excuse the pun) to the millions people donate when they die.
ps... the RNLI do a fab job though!!!!

My Mum keeps telling me she is going to leave her house to the local cats home.
I thought it was just a bit of a joke, but I am now begining to believe her, apparently lots of people do it.
What would a cat want with a 3 bed semi in Huyton anyway?

I am more concerned about the Local Government and the money they have tied up in that bank!
As for the cats - they make great hats, gloves and coats, ideal for winter
I prefer a ginger tortoiseshell as the fur is soft and i love the pattern + it goes with everything and, as a bonus it tastes just like chicken.

I like cats, dogs and most other animals. If people want to leave their money to the CPL that is entirely up to them. Its called freedom of choice what to do with your money.
Certainly not necessary to be rude about it anyway.

Case in point a local donkey sanctuary had some 8m in donations in a year - good for them, not a problem. At the same time Childline, and battered women's charites where in a desperate state and close to shutting down. There was a thread on SN around a year ago about just this.

I personally think people that do leave a lot of there money to these sort of charities probably aren't quite right in the head.
If your going to leave it to a charity, I think highly of them, but they have to be to the right ones and I know everyone has different opinions on whats right and whats wrong but to leave to cats and not cancer research / childrens trust / leukemia etc etc. is totally beyond me.

Maybe it has nothing to do with the felines and is actually the Fat Cats Protection League - a charity set up to ensure the financial security of overpaid city bankers

One does have to question why there is £11.2m in a bank account that is NOT being spent on the cats...which is what that £11.2m in donations was intended for. Not being hoarded in a high interest bank account.
Keeping some cash in the kitty (sorry ) is one thing, but £11.2m? That would probably enough to castrate almost every cat in the country. Thereby eliminating the problem of strays.

All it takes is an item of bad news elsewhere and the supply of one-off donations - the sort collected by people in the street with buckets - can dry up overnight; people start donating their spare cash to the victims of the hurricane/tidal wave/errant government/whatever instead.
