Default My solution to the credit crunch.

Dont watch the news.

I havent for two days and my car still starts in the morning, i still have a job, my computer still works and there is still food to eat. Houses will sell because people are always having kids and need somewhere larger and people still leave home. Some of these may get a little tougher, but hey, life has its ups and downs.

Whats the footsie today, havent a clue and dont care.

What happens if your job goes due to the crunch?

Will you still be able to pay your mortgage, afford to fill your car up or even pay for it?

You might be concerned then?

Unemployment rates are going to soar next year, not just bankers.

I think its 1.7 mill at present. In the 80's it was 3 million and people still bought and sold houses, went to work, paid bills etc.

Paul's got a really good point. I started a new role last Monday and haven't stopped what with a very steep learning curve and having some real beardy techies reporting to me (Sandal-wearing mainframe types ). Time to watch the news? No chance!

3 mill unemployed in the 80's, buildings still got built and new roads planned.

Of course i dont have to re-finance a buy to let in the near future, but thats their own fault for being greedy.

So, you don't have a personal pension, an ISA or any other investment in the stock market, then?

And stuff still sold in shops - but less.

And as you say - 3 million unemployed. That could well happen again, and include you, me or anyone in that number.

That's why we should worry.

Only a work pension, but i put in 3%, they put in 7% so it would have to fall 70% and i'd still break even. No chance of that happening.

He isn't saying that he is immune.

You can spend your whole day worrying, or you can live your life. As many others have said, if the sh&t does hit the fan, there is s*d all anyone can do about it anyway.

If you watch the news, you get told that houses prices are falling, so those who were about to buy, are holding off. The news also said this morning that energy and food prices are likely to fall before Christmas. Does this mean that Xmas is back on?

The only certain things in this life are death and taxes. Everything else is subject to change. Make the best of your situation (as many of us are now starting to do! ) and live your life.

As you say you just don't understand what is happening and the mess which your hero's have allowed us to get into. It will get clearer as time goes by Paulr. Have you done any household shopping recently?

Have you included the permanent jobseekers, the school leavers without employment and those who have cobbled up reasons that they can't possibly work? You would be surprised if all those were added in.

Not exactly on-topic but if anyone's not reading the Daily Mash, have a look at these 2 stories about the banking crisis...

BANKS TO LEND YOU YOUR OWN MONEY

DOES ALISTAIR DARLING HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO RUN SEVENTEEN BANKS AT ONCE?

Had me howling.

Unless you've got stacks of cash stashed away then i'd say your not immune and even then.....

People are losing their jobs in droves, some days i have dozens of old and new suppliers asking me if i'd like to buy x,y,z off them or they have this special offer blah de blah and it could and probably will get worse before it gets better i hope it doesn't but i personally think it will.

I work in manufacturing and we have been in business for 43 years and we've never been as quiet in our forty odd year history!!!!

To say i'm worried is an understatement!!!

I work for one of the largest housebuilders in the country and its hard to believe how the work has dried up and how many people have lost thier jobs. All this then inderectly affects loads of other jobs in all walks of life. Your job could be affected next

I'll put the feelers out.

Last year I had some silly quotes from those that bothered to show up.
