I'm a big fan of classics but I'd prefer a ferrari 308 GTS or an Austin Healey for that money!

Sounds about right, a good group4 mk2 escort can sell for upto 50k. My mate just paid 26k for his mk2 rally car.

These cars have shot up in value over the last 10 years.

Wow, I'd have given a lot for one of those when I passed my test
They were the ultimate "Q" car, looked just like every other Escort on the road, went like sh* off a fork, stuck to the road like sh*t to a blanket

Ok, I get the classic Escort thing, very nice, but its still an old Escort at the end of the day, I think people are getting carried away, 30 grand buys something a lot more interesting than an Escort !

Well spotted. Looks like a UK spec new-age WRX back box. Just needs a pair of chrome tail-pipes from Halfords to really set it off.

I actually HAD a '74 one, the yellow one with smaller stripes and "Mexico" on the wings. It had the full rally lights (surprise, to those who have read any of my posts), a pair of Super Oscars and a pair of oscar fogs crossed for cornering.

Lovely cars.

Oh, and the underbonnet exhaust?
Most folk removed it and put polished "trumpets" in place with mesh filters..........just to hear the intake roar

That old Lotus chain driven twin cam was a LOVELY engine.

If your mum wants to sell and you don't want it, can I have first refusal?

Have you no soul? The ORIGINAL successful rally car. Forget Minis, forget Fiats, Saabs, Lancia, remember the Escorts that RULED rallying for years

Dunno exactly, but the early Ford rally-type cars, (Lotus Cortinas, Twin Cam Escorts), and then the RS's etc were all made at Ford Advanced Vehicle Operations, (AVO), at Borehamwood.

I can think of worse ways but I do think you have a point, I remember when you couldnt give MK1 Escorts away, I have a big soft spot for these old school Fords but not one that could justify 30 grand on one, ten maybe for a minter, although they were legendary rally cars they werent groundbreaking in the way of the Quattro.

I cant get that excited about a chassis number and an extra camshaft to make the leap to it being worth 30 grand, I can get excited about a sorted YB engined one though.
