Car written off - question about insurance
Hi
Was gonna post this in Insurance but I wanted to try and get a quick answer....
My car has been written off after an accident a couple of weeks ago. A few different people have said something along the lines that if its less than 6 months old then the insurers have to supply a new replacement (cant find that written in the Ts & Cs, but havent looked that closely and havent got them at work to double check). The car was exactly 6 months old.
Anyone have any experience of this or know if this is urban myth ?
Dave

It will depend on the wording of your policy. I have known for this term to be included (in fact up to a year old) but if you weren't aware of it with your policy it probably isn't there.

Do you not have GAP insurance on the car - this is ussually offered by the dealer when it is new.Have taken it on my last two cars but thankfully never had to use it.

Any companies underwritten by Norwich Union can have the new car replacement part in their policies. Basically, if your car's written off within the first year of registration they will replace it with a brand new one exactly the same.
As an aside, Norwich Union are about to start offering a second hand replacement on write-offs over the value of £2500, where they'll do the leg work to get you a replacement for what you had rather than sending you a cheque and you having to trail about for a new car. Looking to have you back driving within 48hrs of a write-off apparently.
edit: got in before me Gaz, that's what I get for waffling!
