Yes, I've been reading this month's Evo

So, has anyone on here run a Maserati Ghibli for a while? Do things go wrong? What are the likely running costs on, say, 10k per year? (I've found out that Bill McGrath Maserati is quite near to me, too....)

I found one in Autotrader with 48k on the clock for £9,750. I reckon it hasn't had its 48k service (£2500) but even with that it's cheap for an Italian supercar.

Friend had one years ago. His was the Ghibli Cup - 2.0 V6 turbo (330bhp in standard trim - shames the scooby a bit ), reckoned to be the best Ghibli and about the best Maserati for 30+yrs (pre 3200/4200GT).

Beautiful car, very quick, handled like a dream, sounded awesome. He had it for a bout 2 years, 18k miles and had no real problems with it. Servicing was pretty pricy and mpg wasn't great but a truly awesome car and ran rings round the similar priced M3 (and just about anything else within £10k!).

Under £10k for one of those? Performance bargain of the century.

The under 10k one wasn't a 'Cup' so only 286 bhp. Not many 'Cups' seem to be around, but I think they're quite a bit dearer.

The non-cup was a bigger (and heavier) engine I think, and nowhere near as good - very front heavy

Still a beautiful car, and a good buy at less than £10k!!

You're right:

ordinary ones: 284bhp, 2.8 V6
'Cups': 330 bhp, 2.0 V6

The wild card is that loads of the LHD ones were Italian tax-dodge specials, 2.0 V6 and just over 300 bhp. I think that's what the sub-10k one is.

The price of the turbos on the Cup put me off a bit (4k+VAT each)
