M25 - M3 round to A12 - clockwise or anti ?
On Saturday I need to go from Southampton to Colchester. I'll be going round the M25 from the M3 to the A12. Online route planners show just 5 minutes of difference between the northern clockwise route (faster) and the southern anti-clockwise route, but I'm thinking that the actual traffic conditions might favour the southern route. Getting past Heathrow is always tiresome...
Any actual evidence welcome, either way !

normally south route quickest, anti-clockwise, the road works at the south of Dartford tunnel are nearly complete so you should be ok. The northern route past Heathrow, M40 and Maple cross can easily get mucked up, some times the M1 junction can be affected by the M1 roadworks

ok, southern route it is then - many thanks.
The only complication I can see is that my wife is the passenger and she might find out that it goes past Bluewater AND Lakeside...
