score with parking ticket?
What's the score on this - I was parked on a single yellow line, but didn't know the times you were allowed to park, so I had a wonder up the street to find the sign. when I came back to the car, a nice chap was writing out a ticket for me. I just jumped in to the motor and drove off without him sticking it on my window. Now, should I expect a ticket in the post, or do these tw@ts have to stick the actual ticket to my car for it to be worthy??

AFAIK the ticket must be affixed to the car for it to be legally served. Also, they are supposed to allow a period of grace for 5 minutes before issuing a ticket, so unless you walked 1/4 mile up the road and back whilst finding the sign which is usually within 100m, either he ignored that rule or you were there longer than you should have truthfully been.
Edit - Apparently I'm wrong with the '5 minute grace' parking tickets - London and the UK

didn't think they needed to sticker you anymore - people get tickets via cctv now.
Also don't think there is a grace period for this as it is a yellow line and as such an offence at all times. In a parking bay i think they give you the benefit of a little time in case you are getting change from a shop but since this is no parking you may well have to cough up.
If it arrives in the post you can explain to the council and see if you get off but agree with the above, you must have gone a fair way up the street!
5t.

Apprently they have now changed the rules and they dont need to affix the ticket to the car, but as said you should have the grace time (but that said single yellows normally on till 6:30 pm), make sure you keep a note of the time you were "supposedly in contrevention".

You can argue that there were no clear signs detailing the allowed or prohibited times. They are required to clearly display these and if you couldn't find one it would act in mitigation

Yep, think your right about fixing the tickets to the windows - spoken to a few people now, and some of them have been in the same situation, and got tickets through the post!

If its the police then you can definitely get the ticket through the post. Councils have different rules on this though. Some do post, others do not.
You can always try and fight it, requesting photographic evidence of course, knowing that they are unlikely to have this as the ticket was not stuck on. The first appeal is always rejected out of hand, you have to push further to get anywhere (been through this a couple of times for when we have been legally parked but got a ticket cos of some numptie)
