Default No rear seat belts: what are the regs for kids?

I am thinking of buying an older 4 seat car, which does not have 3 point seat belts in the rear. I have a child of 10 months and a child approaching 3 years. As far as I can tell, kids under 3 cannot travel without a seatbelt, but thereafter it's OK for anyone to sit in the back without belts, if they are not fitted in the back. But I would rather be 100% sure. Anyone else looked into this or know the score? The web seems as clear as mud.

If there are no belts they can't be worn so that is fine for adults. You can probably fit some though for kids

My friend has a rolls royce silver shadow with no rear belts and he can carry rear seat passengers, he doesn't though.

Why would you want to buy a car with no seat belts in it when you have 2 kids?

In fact why would you want to buy a car without seatbelts full stop?

Buy the car by all means if you want it, but I'd never put my 2 kids in a motor with no belts. A car like that I'd have as a weekend plaything just for me, but as a main or only car, I wouldn't do it mate.

I had the same problem when I bought my car, no rear seat belts. I fitted a full set from a later model within 24hrs, no one sat in the rear until it was done.

I had a Healey 3000 with no seatbelts- which was rather scary tbh.

It did, however, have a chrome windscreen surround, so you wouldn't have know about it if you had an accident- it would take the top of your head off.

I never, for one minute, considered taking the kids in it though- in fact, I think I only drove it on the road a couple of times.
