Default Trading a car in for a cheaper one?

In the past I've always traded up, so give the old car to the dealer then give him some more of my hard earned cash and drive away with new car!

Can it work the other way? Are car dealers alright with actually giving you a car and some cash?

Thanks

Yes, although you are better off selling your car privately.

About a 18 months ago traded down from WR1 to astra estate and some £ which was not too bad a deal, but seeing the credit crunch is biting now i think any deal would be poor as traders are struggling to move motors generally.
So beware as they will not want to hand over cash at the moment unless it is too good to pass up!!

yup can be done but in the current climate it is not going ot be so easy they will offer even more silly prices and still expect a good return on the one you buy.

providing you dont owe any finance on the car, you'd get cash back, dont expect a good deal though (as said above)

Deep, is this the M5? I wouldn't think you'd fancy an Evo + cash, probably thinking of something a bit less yobbish

I tried trading down an NSX for an R32 (£17.5K ). Got offered £14k and a sob story for the NSX...f'off

Maybe if it had a slushbox or was a JDM model I wouldn't mind, but its manual and a UK car.
