Question

Does anyone have any thoughts about the recent "admissions" by Ray Mallon?

I caught a headline on Sky News, but nothing more, zero on Ceefax or Teletext, nowt on Ananova, ITV, C4 for C5 (last 3 all ITN based), and hard to find on the Beeb (at
http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/uk/...00/1802618.stm )

FIVE years ago he introduce ZERO TOLERANCE in the North East, and seemed to have found a TRUE way of cracking down on crime. Sadly the establishment didn't agree and he was suspended on various allegations. It seems that the only way to escape (and stand for Mayor to hopefully stamp out crime again) is to plead guilty to 14 disciplinary charges.

Does the apparant news blackout seem a little strange?

I wonder what Mr Blunketts view (no pun intended) on the matter is?

Wile the sudden about face could be construed as a little worrying, the reality of the situation seems to be that [hopefully] the matter will be over in a matter of weeks, and he can stand for the post of Mayor in May.

DEFINITELY one of those occasions where the 'end justifies the means'.

Once he gets elected (and I sincerely believe he will walk it!) there won't half be some fireworks!!

devils_ad69,

Strange that with all the "law and order" stuff hitting the headlines (phone theft, car-jacking, Damilola murder etc.), the ONE guy who actually made an impact appears (alledgedly, as i don't want to upset the secret-net Police) to have been well and truly set/stitched up.

Despite the original criminal charges being dropped, he faces disciplinary charges which meant that he was suspended AND THUS COULD NOT RESIGN. His employers were effectively holding him to ransom FOR YEARS!!! What were these disciplinary charges? Treading on the cracks in the pavement????

The fact that this news appears to be withheld (or at least carefully hidden) makes one wonder whether there is some conspiracy against him - BY THE PEOPLE WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO BE UPHOLDING THE LAW!!!

Robocop was one of the few (indeed possibly the only) persons who actually made a positive effect on crime (and the fear or crime!) - and yet he is being shafted by those still in control.

Anyone from the North East with more info???

Crazy system... If you've 'done it' and you confess - slap wristies, don't do it again! If you haven't done it - AND DON'T CONFESS - years in jail!!!

What about that guy who was accused of murder in a graveyard when he was 17? - a bit simple & young, confessed because it was the only way that the police would let him go to sleep. No solicitor, subsequently denied the charge in court and would have been out years and years ago if he had finally 'confessed' - Ludicrous!

The trouble with the legal system is that it is not about truth and justice (and the american way ) - It just seems to be who can twist the words that make up the 'Law' most cleverly to suit their own ends.

If the person is guilty it doesn't matter that the arresting policeman was shorter than the current minimum recruitment height, hadn't shaved that morning and had left the cap off the toothpaste, that the criminal had his fingers crossed behind his back at the time the offence was comitted and had subsequently declared 'cabbages and kings' turned around and touched the ground to enable freedom from prosecution!!! What does all this garbage matter? !!!!!

Grrrrrr....
(thankyou for your patience )

Boomer,

The inqury against Mallon was adjounred until Jun/Jul and since the Mayoral elections are on May 2, Mallon decided to plead guilty to try to bring some closure.

I wonder if they will now try to stall handing out his punishment. It wouldn't suprise me!
