I'll set the ball rolling (pun intended) with "Step up to the plate". I seem to hear this more and more.

The most irritating is the increasing use of 'myself' in office/business speak, instead of 'I'. I think people use it when they want to appear more educated than they really are. To anyone who really is educated and knows how to use English, hearing people referring to 'myself' over and over again when it should be a simple 'I' is infuriating.

Second most irritating thing is the habit some people have of taking common sayings apart and sometimes rearranging them to sound clever. It just sounds ****** to me e.g. instead of saying, 'that's the pot calling the kettle black' some **** will say knowingly with significant pauses in between the words, 'kettle...pot...black'. To which I would have to say 'up....****...shut'.

When you tell someone you've lost something.

"Where did you have it last?"

If I could remember that I wouldn't be in this mess!!!

"It'll always be in the last place you look"

Er, why would I find it and continue looking!?!

as far as im concerned.

everyone at my college used to say that when you queried anything the college did. each tutor when you mentioned something you would get a response which would start with "as far as im concerned...." which means "i dont care about anyone else or what they have to say" really pi$$ed me off.

'work hard, play hard' - anyone who uses this phrase should just wear a T-shirt with 'I'm a ****' written on it to save themselves the effort of opening their mouths.

Any phrases used by those, usually in business management, to try and sound more intelligent than they actually are: e.g. "blue sky thinking" etc....
