Woo - Hoo.

Will this mean the housing market is going to pick up, and food prices drop?

They're just adjusting, or loss-leading on food.

Wink

Sort of puts ANOTHER nail into the coffin of their claim to make only 2p profit per litre, doesn't it?

I was talking to the owner/manager of a certain franchised petrol seller today, and he said they make 2.4p per litre on UL, touch more on derv and about 7p on the refined juice that you performance drivers demand.

He makes more on sweets, cigs and sarnies than he does on fuel!!!!! Fuel is just an evil to get people on his forecourt.

Since he made the air/water system free his income has gone up by 8%. Weird.

This is a near Central London place that is non-stop and open 24hrs.

Only if they can afford to.

The big supermarkets can afford so sell at cost or even make a loss as they make on the sales from shoppers, flocking in for cheaper juice.

Your average petrol station only sells petrol and a bar of chocolate.

Gone up 20-30p in the last half a year.

Down 5p doesn't sound like slashing to me.

But at least it's not gone up again .

As FP says there's no money in retailing petrol - what you want to do is head up the government and get 70p a litre to waste on whatever you want.

What we really need is the real rip off merchants to decrease their excessive tax take on fuel.

Morissons is Ł1.149 here, which is the cheapest around by quite a long way. Shell is at Ł1.169 but the others still up around Ł1.199.

Fatherpierre : It was in Bracknell (BERKS) the Shell / Sainsburys on the A322 (or is it A329) - near the sports centre for thos that know it....

I did check twice what i was putting in - the sticker on the pump said 129, but the elctronic indicator in the pump window said 117p (I got my Gfriend to check i had the right pump / nozzle etc I was so confused....)

...but the guys in the station confirmed it was correct !!
