ASDA, Sainbury’s and Morrisons Slash Petrol Prices!!

Supermarkets cut petrol prices | Moneywise

Good News!

fatherpierre 22 July 2008 10:13 PM

Woo - Hoo.

Will this mean the housing market is going to pick up, and food prices drop?

They're just adjusting, or loss-leading on food.

alcazar 22 July 2008 10:16 PM

Sort of puts ANOTHER nail into the coffin of their claim to make only 2p profit per litre, doesn't it?

I was talking to the owner/manager of a certain franchised petrol seller today, and he said they make 2.4p per litre on UL, touch more on derv and about 7p on the refined juice that you performance drivers demand.

He makes more on sweets, cigs and sarnies than he does on fuel!!!!! Fuel is just an evil to get people on his forecourt.

Since he made the air/water system free his income has gone up by 8%. Weird.

This is a near Central London place that is non-stop and open 24hrs.

pimmo2000 22 July 2008 11:29 PM

Surely the others have to follow now ??

fatherpierre 22 July 2008 11:34 PM

Only if they can afford to.

The big supermarkets can afford so sell at cost or even make a loss as they make on the sales from shoppers, flocking in for cheaper juice.

Your average petrol station only sells petrol and a bar of chocolate.

jasey 23 July 2008 08:57 AM

Gone up 20-30p in the last half a year.

Down 5p doesn't sound like slashing to me.

But at least it's not gone up again :thumb: .

As FP says there's no money in retailing petrol - what you want to do is head up the government and get 70p a litre to waste on whatever you want.

dpb 23 July 2008 09:22 AM

Must admit iv not seen a Morrisons petrol station - but then i live down south

movi-star 23 July 2008 09:30 AM

Super U/L at Tesco's in Kettering was down 4p to 119.9 yesterday.

slipstream_uk 23 July 2008 09:41 AM

Hasnt make any difference where I stay, Morrisons is still £1.31 for unleaded, Esso is £ 1.33 for super unleaded

Nothing weird about that, i hate paying to check my tires, so much so that i wll drive away if they charge, and find another one that doesnt!

What we really need is the real rip off merchants to decrease their excessive tax take on fuel.

Done the shopping at Tescos last night, and used one of their 5p off a litre receipt things, annoyed I havent used it before. Quite a bit off. :)
