bread also goes stale in the time it take from me to pick it up from the supermarket and get it in to my house (about 1 hour)its always as hard as concrete by the night of the same day if bought from the supermarket, if you buy it from a real little bakers you just cut the first slice off every morning and the rest of the loaf is still fresh last nearly a week!

Cheap industrial bread, could be a false economy, and won't it get damp, condensation, sweaty type stuff being in the fridge in a plastic bag? Our bread lives in it's bag on top of the worktop. As long as the missus remembers to close the bag up, and puts the end crust slice back, after making toast in the morning, it stays fresh.

If you don't make it yourself, you do not know what cr@p is in it!
I recall helping a friend find the ingredience for "sausages". There is a "meal" that goes in, can't recall what it used to be, but it was replaced with "something else". Uses less of it, and when I researched what was in it, we both gave it a wide birth!

Dunno, maybe your missus, house mates, cleaning woman are trying to kill you off with mouldy bread-itis Dunno if Wharburton's is any good, we don't get it over here. Isn't LSD made from the mould on bread or is that an urban legend?
Anyho, buy smaller loaves, eat it faster?

Tip for making bread last....cool dark dry place (like a bread bin or even the fridge) and keep the bag tightly sealed (especially in the fridge).
BUT the most important...don't touch it! By that I mean, don't touch the inside of the bag, or any other slices of bread - even inadvertantly.
Funny stuff yeast...bit of human sweat and off it goes, mouldy bread within a few days of fingering it (i'm sure there's a dirty joke in there somewhere). Fresh pasta is the same as well.
