Anyone work for Santander / Abbey??
I was just wondering if anyone on here works for Santander or Abbey.
As an employee of Alliance & Leicester I'll be joining you in the next 3 months, subject to the necessary approvals etc.
Was just wondering what the company is like to work for
Cheers

Not wishing to p1ss on your chips, but I'd expect this is a cost-cutting strategy and they'll be looking to lay off as many of the A&L people as possible over the coming months. Look on the bright side though, there'll probably be loads of dosh for those who leave without a fight. Take it and run if you can!

To be honest I'm not really that bothered / worried.
I've only been there 2 and a half years and 18 months of that was as a contractor, I'll just go contracting again but guys I work with have been there over 20 years and are worried.
I've been outsourced to SCC once and wouldn't want to go through that fun again

Who owns A&L now? Is it British owned?
If so, it look like yet another British company is going to be owned by Jonny Foreigner. We'll have nothing else to own soon.
Look at British (French) gas. They charge us a fortune while charging their own a fraction of what we get charged.
Bet if Santander went bust, the British saver would lose out most.

Santander have slowly been moving Abbey systems on to their own platform, called Partenon. On the way they have laid off loads of Abbey staff, and the same will happen at A&L. They are talking about £60m plus in IT savings.
On a more positive note, those laid off from Abbey (at least in the early days) got a reasonable payoff.

We've been going through the same process in A & L, moving onto Alnova, Partenon is their version of Alnova....the one constant appears to be Accenture!!

Dont really know much about working for them. But as having a buisness account with them (moving to Barclays, by friday) they are shocking. More interested in taking money from you than helping you. Put over 270k in the last two years into them, and absoloutley no help at all. Have a substantial amount in the account at the mo, and Barclays will be getting the lot on friday. I had a cheque bounced on me by a customer last november, Abbey charged ME £35. Spoke to some barely English speaking, non human idiot in god knows where. Guess what several vexed phone calls later, still no resolve. Last person i spoke to was under a bush in somalia. Since then they ***** have charged me an extra £127.19p. For refusing to pay the charge. Now i have notified i am moving my money to another bank, they cant do enough for me. Good luck mate, but expect a fair bit of calls from irate customers, that bank dont give a **** about there customers.
