Well after years of pee-taking of the old farts at work who wear glasses. With me approaching old fart status myself it is blatantly obvious that my eyesite aint what it used to be and i need glasses.

How much am i looking at? how much is an eye test and where would someone reccommend to go?

dont need designer as i will only need them for driving as it is long distance that is a problem but then again i dont want national health type

I sympathise as it's just happened to me too needing specs that is!

I can't offer any advice on where to get your eye test or purchase glasses as I got mine here in Japan.
However, I did make a big mistake by not getting bifocals/varifocal lenses
I need my specs for near working only and it's a pain to have to take them off each time I have to look further a field.

My GF thinks I look sexy when wearing them though She says it's because they blur her vision Cheeky bint

the boy at work has just got some new glasses, some of them ones that change colour depending on the amount of light? so they turn into kinda sunglasses when required.

having great fun at the moment calling him "Techno Gegs"

As a man of many years experience of being a specky tw@t myself I can heartily reccommend boot opticians. Used the one in Macc for 10 years and they always give good service, you always feel welcome and they never rush you.

The eye test is about £20 and a pair of glasses can range from £90 to, well the skys the limit. I have just got new glasses and I got a free pair of sunglasses and this was £190. Thats 2 pairs, both with designer frames.

I know some will say contacts, but I find them hard to wear all day.

If you work with computer screens some companies cover the cost of the eye test so check that out with HR...

I have worn glasses since I was 3.

The names ihave been called include four eyes (tw@t ****** **** etc)

Goggles, gogglers goggle-oxy ( I think thats how they would have spelt it)

eyes in glass was another, specs specky the list goes on

any way i'm 36 now now and aint called fat or bald or ugly so or stupid or poorfcuk it i think ill stivck with me goggles.

If you only need reading glasses, I don't think you can get laser for that

Many years ago there was a huge piece of graffiti on a school wall near me..

It said "FEAR THE DASS".

It was years later when i learned it meant fear the Droylsden anti speccy squad.. They used to go around beating up the bespectacled members of society..

Specky four eyes

 

I've worn Glasses since I was about 4 years old.

The amont of fight's I got into during my years at school over name calling? I've lost count (Won them all though )

First day at Senior school I made a promise to myself, the first person to call me any name regarding me wearing glasses got a smack. Took about 3 hours

Had very little bother after than. Only a few fights a year

I'm 34 now, and still hate wearing them, but I can't wear contacts, and I'd still need Glasses even after laser eye surgery (so no point).

 

I think i might give Asda a whirl 10 quid is not bad for a test.

I think that starting you thread with "Specky four eyes" has hit a nerve with people who wear glasses. You admit yourself that you've called people it over the years.

I dare bet if people insulted you with name calling you'd complain, or if you are Black and some one used the word `Black` before the word B*stard, you'd complain about racist remarks made towards you.

Certain people can't wear contacts or have surgery (me) so are quite sensitive to stupid terms like "Speck four eye's".

Remember that specticle wearers have had these name aimed at them all the way threw school. They don't want/expect to see it on a car forum.

OK, you weren't aiming it at anyone on here, but the term itself is insulting to those who wear glasses.

TBH it doesn't really mater where you go. MOst will have most of the designer ranges in anyway, or can get them. I go to a local Optitions and they have all the ranges in. I wear `D & G` specticles.
