Has anyone used a travel money card abroad???
Am going to Italy this year and am thinking of a different way to carry money apart from carrying currency or travellers cheques...
These cards are issued by some of the banks and the post office and are a bit like top-up cards.
Has anyone used one and if so,what are the pros and cons???
Cheers

My girlfriend used one when we went to New York, seemed to work everywhere we went to (ie, restaraunts, bars, shops etc) i know that if you use it in a hole in the wall to draw out cash there is a charge (which we didnt use). As for Europe, im sure there isnt much difference. I would recommend it.

Yeah, they're great!
I got one last year - Thomas Cook. You pick the currency it'll be in, they load the card up with whatever currency you need and then you use it like you would a switch/credit card. You get a pin for the cash machine (small charge for withdrawal) and just sign for everything else.
Fantastic and will use ours every time we go away now!

Get a nationwide current account. Its VISA and just withdraw on that. As far as Im aware its the only bank in England that doesnt charge with withdrawls abroad. Im currently in Costa Rica and just left Panama and its working fine for me. No hassle, no charge. What more could you want?

One thing to watch out for though, make sure the account you attach it to is the one you will top it up from. We found out ( in malia ) you can only top up from the account you original registered with the card. Also top it up well before you run out of money as it can take upto 24 hours to go on!
