Default Overloading the car

Listening to the news today about the teacher who has been banned from driving for a year for carrying 13 people in a Volvo reminded me of something from my teenage years. A group of us, 8 in total, fancied going to a country pub 1 evening. The only problem was only 1 of us, Chris, had a car - his mum's mini! Undaunted we persuaded Chris we could all get in which we promptly did. As we set off Chris started expressing reservations about what would happen if the police stopped him for overloading. A voice came up from the back "Don't worry Chris - it'll be his word against 8 of us"

We had 6 in a week old Metro Turbo in the early 80's, me sitting in the back, only we weren't lucky enough to get away with it. After being hit by a drunk driver the injuries were bad and the car was dead.

Been there done that, back in the late 70's/early 80's. Taken to football training in what was I think a mk3 Cortina estate. Our manager took the entire team, 11+ 3 subs and himself. We had kids in the footwells!

Ah, them were the days

Mum and Dad and 8 kids in a Cortina estate coming home from a MacDonalds birthday party, somebody had too much root beer and promptly spewed up in the back, lovely!
