What I did on Fathers Day
Hi Guys,
I don't post on Scoobynet often but enjoy reading stuff every day! it's a great place!
Anyway, just thought I'd share with you all what I did today, Fathers day. I lost my beloved dad nearly 5 years ago to a very rare form of cancer - Carcinoid Syndrome. Not a day goes by when I don't miss him like crazy - not only was he my dad but my best friend too - not many girls take their dads out nightclubbing with them on their birthdays! Every day (although I always feel proud to have had him as my dad) I feel sad at the fact that he's not there to share something, however small that may be, with me.
Today, I ran the race for life in memory of my dad. Not much many of you may think, but today I ran it with my stepdaughter. The last time I ran this my dad was alive. I've not felt strong enough to do it again since he died. BUT, all of the girls I work with decided to do the race....so I took the plunge. A space became available last week for Issy (my stepdaughter) to join me. She jumped at the chance. Now Issy is only 10, but she told me she wanted to do it for Grandad Jim. And so today, I ran with countless others in memory of my dad with Issy as my support. I couldn't have done it without her.
So this is me saying thank you Issy!!
It's not a plug for donations - I'm sure you all know someone who's doing this. I just wanted to share my day and for the first time since Dad died, Fathers Day was ok!
Thanks for reading,
Laura

What a nice thing to do, im sure your step daughter Issy will have a great memory of that day for the rest of her life, and a loving memory of a family effort to raise funds in remembrance of your father/her grandad's illness
Must be hard to lose your dad, i can only imagine what it must feel like, but good on you for running the race for life, anything done to raise funds for charity is very worthwhile indeed, and im sure you dad would of been very proud of you
For the record, ive spent all day working for my dad, painting and decorating offices in Manchester town center Very crappy day for the both of us TBH
Ill take him for a few beers and get my *** wooped at snooker in the week to make up for it tho

My father had a 6 hour operation on friday (13th) which was a succes. His artery in his leg had problem so they had to repair it. It was that or an amputation of the limb.
Today for Father's day I visited him in intensive care.
Anyway i spent most of friday preparing myself to lose him as the consultnat said it was a tricky procedure.
He's on the mend any how and being moved to a normal ward in a day or so.
He says the morphine is awesome.
Sorry to hear about your loss.

Well done you.
That is such a huge step you've taken, after what you have been through, and congratulations for doing it. Sorry for your loss, but I'm sure from somewhere he is so incredibly proud of you and Issy.
Abeit, it's not my Dad, but my Mam who has recently had cancer. She is Ok at the moment, but every day is a worry to a point in case it comes back (her 1 year check up is tomorrow). I would love to do something like this towards the cause, hopefully not in her memory, one day. I'm not very fit, but I was talking to a friend the other day about doing it with her, but maybe even just briskly walking it next year.
It is such a horrible disease, and anything which will help in research etc. is well worth it.
Seriously, all credit to you for managing to make this step forward.

Fantastic - wifey has run this a couple of times. Me and the kids have always gone to support.
Didn't really help her the one year - as she was running/wheezing past, we were all there eating MacDonalds!! The we went and played on the bouncy castle (kids, not me!!)
It's a great cause though, and this was the first year she hasn't done it. Will boot her (and her nurse-workmates) into doing it next year!!
Well Done though for doing it.

Well done to both of you for doing the race
I lost my dad to cancer 5 years ago and yesterday was fathers day but it would also have been my dads birthday, I was at the NBO but it still didn't stop me thinking, I think he would have loved to have been at that too tbh.
I've thought about the race for life but haven't went ahead and done one, we did raise over £400 for cancer research after my dad had died, just from donations instead of flowers etc.

Well Done to both of you, a couple of girls I work with are doing one in a few weeks time, and I donate to their race every year, be very proud of yourself cos by the sounds of it your Dad would have been smiling down on you, and well done to Issy too

Hey Ritchie, thats great, I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with us.
I miss both my Mom and Dad, one died 24 years ago and the other 21 years ago. I still miss them like crazy. Its sure is a fact you don't appreciate them as much as you should until they're not around.
So if you have parents still alive, treasure them.

Thank you for all of the kind comments. Issy has just got home from school and has been proudly showing of her medal all day (quite right too!!)
For those of you going through stuff now, good luck. It's tough but you will get through it, even when you can't see how.
For those who have themselves, or those they love, beaten this disease, many many congratulations!
Thanks though to you all for taking the time to read this and respond!
