I had a pork pie the other day and the ingredients were: wheatflour, pork, pork lard, pork fat. Now that's a healthy meal!

I've had to do the same, well I've had to do that for a long time. But, you'll be surprised how much "food" there is available with shedloads of sugar, or worse still, salt in it. Even common rice has salt in it!

I don't like salty things, we don't cook with salt and I never add salt, even Salt and Shake crisps, I bin the salt, just don't like it, not for health reasons, it does amaze me how much is crammed in.

I suppose a Cherry Bakewell is basically just Sugar and you know that, but like you say, loads of stuff has it in and isnt that sweet, some crisps, soups, bread and all sorts of stuff, all to get you to crave their product. I get those Nature Valley crunchy bars which are nice but overly sweet, they dont need to be so overpoweringly sweet, like most shop bought stuff, it caters for the lowest common denominator.

Cheesy Wotsits, are however beyond criticism, just enjoying getting the last bits out of my teeth at the moment.

Are you a bit like those 30 stone Americans we used to see jogging, if you can call it that. We found we could easily overtake them when we were walking!

After about 10 minutes they used to collapse into a "Dunkin' Do'nuts" to replace of that energy they had worked off!

I have noticed on my cycling days I am hungrier, I suspect my car uses less energy than me and produces less noxious emissions, what I don't understand is the government are trying to get us out of our cars for the environment, I think Mr Brown should slipstream me on my bike for a mile or two and then have a re-think after listening to my Dump Valve chattering.....

When he comes to that is....

Having lived in Japan for too long, I'm now 'big butt sensitive' I can spot an American from 300 yards due to their extensive/expansive backsides. Mind you, on my last visit to the UK, we're not far BEHIND! Excuse the pun

I had a couple of people knock on my front door last week and they asked me what sort of bread I ate.

I said white.

They then stood there for 30 minutes explaining the virtues of brown bread.

Turns out they were bloody Hovis Witnesses.

I'll get my coat.

Had a Thai meal last night, lovely but didn't sleep properly, either that or the booze causing it.

Nothing like Saturday afternoon in bed with a bottle of Champagne.

That one you like with Onion Bahjis ?

Would love to see the nutritional info for that one, I reckon it would just say "You dont want to know"

Anyway, thought you were on the Atkins ?

The atkins is too extreme but the principle is good. We are far to reliant on carbs in our diet. Unless you hit the gym every night you'll be packing so many more calories than you need. bread is loaded for what it is. meat and veg is where it's at. Problem is people are too lazy in an office job and go for the easy option at breakfast and lunch. Then the snack which people discount.

Far too much importance on food and drink in the western world due to us leading largely unfulfilling lives.

I am sure everyone in the third world is glad they dont have that burden, good food is part and parcel of being fulfilled, its one of our major pleasures, like music, humour, sex its part of the human experience, sure we have some strange relationships with food but by and large most deal with it.

This is the thing though. We turn to it as an escape. it's a mental state and I love my food as much as anybody but stuffing your face on relatively crap food during the week and work is not the same as enjoying a well prepared meal. We make far too many excuses for ourselves as well to be fat b@stards (not aimed at you... in general).

My vice is drink mainly but I'm happy to balance it with exercise.

When I'm not drinking alcohol I'm drinking water and eating relatively well as long as ensuring I exercise pretty well. I could drink less alcohol that is for sure.
