French/Swiss Absinthe (with an "e" at the end) tastes like aniseed, and as far as I know, doesn't contain much (if any at all) Thujone. So you might just as well be drinking Pernod. (It was first produced commercially by Pernod in 1797)
The best stuff (Absinth without an "e" at the end), does not taste like aniseed, and some brands from Czech Republic can contain quite high levels of Thujone which has similar properties to THC, the active ingredient in canabis. This is the one that gets you high as well as drunk.

Most Absinth has a Thujone content of 10mg/Kg and up until a few years ago, that was the maximum allowed. Now it seems, for domestic sales only, the Czech Republic allows up to 35mg/Kg of Thujone.

I still have a couple of bottles of 75% ABV Bohemian Absinth 35 which I bought when I visited Prague last year.

Best way to drink it is down in one after immersing a spoon of burning sugar in it ! The fumes make your eyes water a bit though !!

oh well. having recently installed a couple of gadgets in mrs g's car (a "hard wired" fm modulator for her ipod and a bluetooth hf kit for her phone [and mine]), it wouldn't make sense for us to go in my car...hence i probably won't be driving
