A blow to the Torrie's if the does go.

Always come over as very clever and articulate. Always listen when he's speaking on the news.

He's resigned as a personal protest against increasing intrusion into our private lives and freedom rights. Good on him I say. dl

He has resigned.

Seems he is so angry about 42 days so I think more of a blow for GB even if he is the opposition

A loss for the Tories ..... he was the single Tory I had some time for.

Won't bother GB one jot.

"Mr Davis is also to stand down as an MP in Hull and call a constituency by-election to highlight the issue of the erosion of civil liberties in Britain.

He will then stand as a Conservative candidate again for the same seat, in the by-election set to be held on July 10, while campaigning on the issue of civil liberties in the Hull area and throughout Britain. "

If that's true, then it's a pretty cheap publicity stunt in my view, be funny if he lost

Well my faith in MPs has just beeen restored.

In an day and age where MPs can be brought off with promises, here comes one that is willing to lose his job over his beleiefs. Apparantly Cameron had no idea he was going to do it.

The Lib Dems have said that they won't put a candidate up against him, so good on them too.

He said in his speach he was going to fight the by eleciton solely on the erosion of civil liberties.

David Davis has just gone up several hundred places in my opnion

Just when I was starting to like the Tories, they pull a stunt like this.

I wonder what kind of 'principled' stand DD would be taking if he was in a marginal constituency and 20% behind in the polls?

My **** Cameron didn't know about this, this is a completely political move, and a pretty shabby one at that.

The Tories will be in power soon anyway, so it's utterly pointless, let's see how their attitude changes towards protecting the public changes when they are in a position of responsibility.

The Polling Stations ... who pays for those then?

Paperwork ... again, who pays then if not the taxpayer?

Policing ... taxpayers pay or who?

Postage ... free, maybe?

Counting Officers ... volunteers?

I could go on .....

Utter waste of PUBLIC money for a political point!

He's been replaced in the shadow cabinet already.

Whether he'll come back in after the by -election I don't know. You would imagine he'll fit in somewhere.

Policing? For what, where?

Postal votes you mean? How amy of those do you reckon there will be?

Effectively yes. Returning officers are usually county officials that do the returning officer job when necessary.

Counters are volunteers.

Try looking up the phrase "Matter of principle" I bet Google would put you right on that!

Good luck to him anyway.

You mean 'matter of principle' when there's not a cat in hells chance he'll lose his seat?

Why not just resign and be done with it then?
