Default Can you work without email?

One of the exchange servers at work went bang at midday and since then I can't send or receive email and (especially as I'm at home) I can't really work successfully!

I have been trying to think how I actually did any work without email.

Yes quite easily - either use a web based email or use the lost art of actually talking. A task I find quite hard to get over to some of out sales people who think thye can do all their business over IM & email.

It would be heaven: the customers almost never contact me by mail, so all I would miss out on would be all the management BS, plus nonsense from my colleagues.

ditto, I switch my email off when I want to get some work done but my phone rings more instead.

Phone call usually starts "I sent you an email like an hour ago and you havent replied"

Lots of people I work with answer emails as soon as they drop into their inbox. I only open Outlook once or twice a day. If it's urgent they can call me.

That is all interesting, I actually find phone calls intrusive these days and much prefer to communicate via email. It means that I can do many things at the same time and (in an unsocial way) don't have to waste time with the nicities of "How are you" etc...

I get about 20 or so emails of 'importance' every half an hour I guess, so without it work builds up. So much so when the server came back up inthe evening I spent the next 4 hours replying.

I can quite easily work without mail. We use Lotus Notes, so we are virtually working without it anyway.

I just ring people if I have to - or use AT&T interwise.
