Default 39k for driving a lorry...

39k for driving a petrol tanker .... is that a flat 37.5 hour week ?

read it on the bbc news website today about the petrol tanker drivers who are going on strike because they want a larger pay rise.

Anyone know of any more unassuming/low skill jobs that you get paid 35k+ for ?

im in the wrong line of work (Been a network engineer for 10 years! )

For one I doubt that is for a 37 hour week, and I also don't class it as a low skilled job.

London cab drivers earn way more than that if they want to.

It's not 'just' driving.

Big responsibility but once you have your certs, I cant imagine its that demanding, no more so than driving any other artic, however why shouldn't they earn 39k, its a good salary but it you have 2 kids, a mortgage etc it doesn't go very far these days, I earn more than that and don't have a mortgage and manage to spend what I earn without trying.

shouldnt be any nights out. will be based on 40 to 45 hours a week (dont forget the driving time regulations) you will need a hazardous licence on top of your basic class 1 licence as well. as for none skilled, try passing your hgv test first then say that

i earn half that driving a class 1
but i imagine the wages has gone since all the terror attacks
but i believe the adr test is only a written test but think u have to take every 5 years
they have also made it law that all hgv/psv drivers have to also take a cpc test every 5 years on top of taking class2/class1, thoery tests so its an expensive thing now

What about the test for pulling out on cars as they are about 30cm away, in the other lane and about to overtake?

Only messing - was almost killed today by an idiot that thought his indicating meant he could wipe me out.

I imagine your talking about Hoyer as the company? If so they are on 38k (I speak with them in work as they deliver raw oil into us) and they want a 13% pay rise. A lot of their reasoning is that they have the contract to deliver fuel into shell garages and their argument is shell are earning billions in profit (they probably dont realise that shell do many other things as well)
Although it seems like a lot, you can be away from home for days at a time, which if you have a family puts a strain on your life. You also generally smell (drivers who come into us do) and are not in the best physical condition. Like Shaggy said earlier as well, driving regulations come into play so you could be based in manchester, finish a 3 day run in aberdeen and be stuck there before being able to drive back. You may think its easy, but politics and legalities dictate that it isnt

the transport managers CPC (national or international) is for life

the drivers CPC isnt in force yet but it isnt like normal CPC its just a set amount of training encompassing driver assesments and theory training most of the time done in house.

most of the guys that work here that tramp (overnight) take home £1250 a fortnight.

oh yeh and the new working time regulations are bollocks anyways poa's let drivers work there maximum allowed time under eu drivers hours regs

i was thinkin about being a hgv driver but for lessons and gettin the lisence its too expensive, so now i'm trying to be a train driver they train you and while your training you get a basic of about 23-24k then when you've qualified you start on like 35-45k
