Default So THIS is what an £800 chair looks like

Finally after 10 months of waiting, and loads of time off, work have made the first move into changing the workplace.

The new chair arrived today. Roughly £800 worth if "approved" chair.
Nice to sit on I have to say, but a long time waiting for it.

£800 worth.... im not sure about that.

You've made your work buy you an £800 in order to keep you working?

Might ask my work for a PS3 to keep me happy at lunch time

Chair is actually £841 + delivery. So make that £900

No no my solicitor and occupational health did that lol
The bill is nearer £1400 with the other bits that go with it.

Including an £80 mouse!

We were actually talking about a 40" TV with Sky and a games console for "rest" time. But that was put off with the spending freeze.

£800?! I hope it gives you a full body massage, makes your coffee, answers the phone and has a PS3 built in!

Nope, nope, nope and nope, but..........

It does have a pump up lumbar support, and prevents the need for massages.
Also allows me to mock everyone else in the office about their crap chairs, bless

How comes you get the uber chair and everyone else has to make do with the slow cripple chairs?

Without wishing to upset I don't really agree with this "I have a bad limb and its obviously my job so my employer is responsible" way of thinking.

We've got fully adjustable office chairs for our two main office staff but they weren't £800. I have the fake leather exec chair

Where shall I start
Oh ok, here. Not upsetting anyone mate, certainly not me.

Fault / blame. Not blaming the employer at all for the tennis elbow and injured limb. I am however suing them for failing to act in a responsible manner, and make the required changes as recommended by their own doctor. Which subsequently caused other issues

I get an uber chair because I have made a BIG fuss about it, and will not tolorate being required to work in a substandard enviroment. The rest just whine quietly, and fall silent when asked bu someone important.

Price, totally out of my hands. I found them a suitable chair for about £260, but it was rejected as it was not available from their "prefered supplier" !

Hope that all makes sense without sounding sulky or arrogant

It should be a pre-requisite that if you work in an office and sit down all day, you should have a proper ergonmic chair.

I have a £500 chair, which was RRP'd at £850 apparently and it is one of the best purchases I have ever made, being self employed I had to pay myself but I don't regret it - my back and neck issues of old are all but gone.

Mine does look a damn site nicer than that one though, in an Aliens sort of way

Beware the office jokers!!!

We have a senior type of chap that requires a "special" chair for his bad back, and takes it round the hanger with him. However as we have a huge amount of tools in the hanger, some unkind people take great delight in taking it apart for him.

Mind you his is a complete throbber

similar to my case then. i kept quietly moaning for ages before all hell broke lose with my rheumatologists report. so in a similar sense to you im not able to carry on my duties, but full stop and not just with adjustments. again its down to the companies negligence and faster faster approach to health and safety.

glad one of us is getting there michael

Feels much better though, honest lol.

Rob, I can imagine mate, there is one person who would consider messing about like that, and should he do such a thing... he WILL pay.

Dont mind people sitting in it, but adjusting it, HELL NO ! lol

DreamWeaver, totally agree mate, we spend 8-9 hours a day in the chairs. The ones that are there currently are a joke, and not whats required. Hopefully me going through all this has just earned the others some replacement chairs

Cheers mate, hope yours makes progress too.
Im filling out a legal form as we speak, employer is expected to respond by August. Sadly my boss has quit, so thats gonna mess things up a bit, but hopefully their August response will take some responsibility.

The fact that there is a program in place, and I have it in writing, to replace all the chairs in the office due to their short fallings and not being suitable for the job.

As for the rest of the case, well there is a long way to go, but im hoping it will be something that can all be agreed without too much fuss. Making the work place safer is the main thing, and my main goal

Saw Occu Health today, and he had to apologise on 2 occasions after losing his rag when I was telling him what my employer has and has not done yet.... Needless to say, he is unimpressed at their progress and actions.

Well I'm currently undergoing physio for back problems caused by a combination of rubbish chair and bad posture so I'd agree that a good chair is well worth it, especially if you are working at a screen all day

Says the person currently sitting on the sofa surfing with a laptop

your employer must be hurting really bad having to fork out all that just for a chair, don't take this the wrong way, but if i was you i would be watching my back at work, and i dont mean your physical back

one would assume your "boss" would be looking for an "easy way out" with the problem if you know what i mean

lol au contrair, not really the case. Not taken the wrong way
However, given the situation they are in, and the fact they have just paid for it, they are hardly likely to try and sack me on a minor technicality.

At the end of the day he is a manager, of me, not the whole company, and its not his money anyway.
Given the possible negative exposure they could get, I dont think im on the at risk list,..... yet lol

lol show off. I could have added some options just to be fussy, but was going easy on them lol
Bet you dont have a £100 (well almost...) mouse though do ya.

Da One, if you should have it for health reasons, they should provide it, but like you say, a lot of companies say FOFF

Big, I have a nice leather recliner at home, but the new one is not too bad compared to the tatt we had at work. I think there is one in the background of that pic

Nice to sit on I have to say, but a long time waiting for it.

£800 worth.... im not sure about that.
In all seriousness mind yourself, I have a guy who weighs in at 35 stone he's gone through 2 of those in a year, the wheels just snap off from the base without warning.

Quick Reply: So THIS is what an £800 chair looks like
