Red face Hospital parking .... and throwing up blood

Over heard my brother calling in sick for work and when he said he'd been throwing up blood ! I though hang on.. that sounds a bit wrong ..

Took him to A&E and Oh dear god how difficult is it to park ? took me about 40 minutes to find a space .. god help the parents with a sick child !!

Due to the blood they saw him straight away (the Nurse did) and said it wasn't an emergency so he was ok to wait 3 hours to see the doctor... needless to say he felt terrible and 3 hours in the hot A&E ward wasn't something he was willing to do ..

I made him an appointment to see his doctor the next day.. as I am brother/father apparently ...

The doctor he saw was young and attractive .. female for those interested ... she said he's been drinking too much and to calm down ..

About an hour later she phoned him up and said she'd changed her mind .. and for him to come and get blood tests ASAP ... ASAP being next Tuesday the day he goes on holiday !

.......

Heavy drinking over a long time can cause the capilaries (sp?) and blood vessels to be raised to the surface inside the oesophagus (sp?) and the more heavy drinking takes place, these blood vessels can rupture, causeing the said reaction. Sometimes it can lead to fatalities though if left for long enough with the heavy drinking continuing. I think if it was an ulcer there would be a bit more of a panic but you never know with todays medical lottery.

Really hope he's seen to properly and sorted, whatever it ends up being.

All the best!

Tom

Yeah. I burnt my hand last year. Had to wait 40 minutes to be assessed. Was told to wait for another hour to be treated.
All this time I wasn't given a bowl of water to place my hand in. Had to buy a bottle of water to keep rinsing my hand in, and nipping off to the toilets to place my hand under the cold water tap. I was in agony.

I've spewed blood during drinking before.

It's bit of a shock at first, but you soon realise that the odd bleach like taste to the lager is infact line cleaner.

It didn't stop me having another 7 pints that night

Thats sounds bad to me Pimmo, even if I am not an expert. Seems like common sense to me that he should be examined thouroughly and straightaway too. Can't believe their final instruction to him. I hope he is ok anyway.

p.s. forgot to say. Unfortunately this was from experience. As said, vomming blood ain't much fun at all, needs proper diagnosis.

If you can't find a parking space next time, drive to the A&E entrance where the ambulances go.
