Angry Mathematics - I know it's easy, but I've forgotten how to do it

I think I must be retarded or something as I can't remember how to work out the answers to some simple mathemtic problems. I used to be able to do these as a kid

Here's an example:

One carpet tile measures 50cm by 50cm. How many tiles are required to cover a floor which measures 5m by 4m? = 80

I just can't remember how to do it!

500X400= 200,000cm2

Tile = 50X50=2,500cm2

20,000 / 2,500 = 80 tiles

so yeah, you were right

I can't either, I still use yards feet and inches and I've got a converter on my phone as well.

Or, 2 tiles do 1 metre so you'd get 10 tiles along the 5m edge, 8 down the 4m edge...10 x 8 = 80

I can do that

And even subtractions too

Ah, it makes sense now...

So, seeing if I've grasped it, if I have a garden measuring 12m by 9m with a rose bed in the centre measuring 3m by 6m to work out the total non-rose area I would do:
12x9 = 108
3x6 = 18.

108 - 18 = 90

Ah but can you tie your shoelaces by yourself??

Already answered but my simpleton take on it

5x4m = 20 square metres

4 tiles needed per square metre.

4x20=80 Tiles

Do what I would do, buy one box of tiles at a time lay them, keep buying single boxs untill you're done, then simply count them.

just buy one tile and then draw around it. move it along and repeat until area is covered in squares.

then count the squares....
its cheaper and less visits to the DIY store

Cover your floor in old newspapers, sellotape them all together. Then, take your new patern to the DIY and lay the tiles out on it till you have enough
