Anyone else excited at the prospect of President Obama?
Still a long way to go I know, but what a fantastic message this would send out to the rest world, after 8 wasted and devisive years

If we think it's bad now that you can't look sideways at a coloured person without being labled a racist, just wait till one of them is in power.
Anti Racist laws will go mental.

They don't still want a woman or an OAP as President.
But that is slightly wrong though. Clinton has had more public vote (winning larger states) but Obama has won more super delegates.
Something like that anyway. Not really taken too much notice TBH.

I hope he wins.
As for the message it sends out. That the US people are prepared to back a forward thinking, progressive, Liberal Black president.
Shouldn't matter what colour he is, but it does, and primarily because of the deeps seated racism in parts of that country.

I think the world is already aware that America has moved on, have you not noticed people like Condaleeza Rice and Colin Powell?
Not to mention about 80% of American sportsmen, including people like Tiger Woods.

I am truly suprised (and pleased) he has done so well.
Reasons why are that he is black and his religious background.

His mother was raised by non-practicing Christians; his father was raised a Muslim but was an atheist by the time he had married Obama's mother. Obama's step-father was also Muslim, but of an eclectic kind who could make room for animist and Hindu beliefs. Neither Obama nor his mother were ever atheists, but she raised him in a relatively secular household where he learned about religion.
I would have thought that the southern states and a lot of the christians that make up the us of a have thought him unsuitable.
Hillary Clinton - Whilst a female, ticks the white and religious boxes and not only that stood by her cad of a husband.
TBH i do not care what colour he is or what his beliefs are as long as he is not some extreemist nutter.
I want a good, honest anf fair person in charge - failing that then next best thing.
I am glad Obama has got through, i think that he is an OK guy from what i have seen. Now the gloves are really off as he is now facing his toughest opponent who will use all the trick in the book and some thathave not beeen written yet.

There is a quantum difference between appointed officials like Condi Rice and Colin Powel and a democratically a elected president. Don't you understand this?

There are still racial and social issues that need resolving in America, and this would be a step towards it.
I think more than that though, he is a far more Liberal thinking person than McCain.

The message, if there is one is, we're fed up with the current government after 8 years and we think the other side can't be any worse. The candidates were a black man and an incredibly irritating woman, so we've chosen the black man.

Well OK if thats your opinion, I doubt it's shared by most though. Afterall the symbolism of the first 'black' president is incredibly powerful

I think that Mcain will get in, simply because there are enough democrats in the US who, sadly will say "I ain't having no n*gger in the white house", and similarly there are enough who will say "I ain't having a woman in the white house".
I don't know if the floating voters who are disillusioned with current administration will be enough to sway it away from the Republicans.
I hope I am wrong.

Also you have to factor in that the Black American population have actually voted.
