Question Interesting New Scam?

What do you reckon to this?

Genuine or not?

"Hello,

The car is located in Madrid, Spain and so am I. I am a Captain (OF-5) in the Royal Navy. I bought this car from NAAFI at a very good price. I am deployed to Germany and I must sell the car in the next week. I tried to sell the car here but nobody wants a right hand drive, still UK registered vehicle. I had the car here with me for the last 6 months, it is in excellent condition, never been involved in an accident and it is HPI clear. This must be a very quick sale because I am leaving Spain to Germany in one week. As I stated before I bought this car from NAAFI at a very good price which I too reduced substantially for a quick sale. I also have to mention that you are allowed only 6 months to drive a car under a foreign license in Spain and those months have expired. I have the car at a local carriers ready for the delivery back to UK. I know that the distance is a major inconvenient and in order to have a quick and secure transaction I am proposing the payment to be held by a third party until the car is delivered. I apologize for listing the car as being located in the UK but I paid for the listing with my UK credit card and the registered address I have at the bank was automatically added to the listing.

Thanks for the interest"

Any idea for a response?

Send him an e-mail asking him to fund you a trip to Madrid, up front, and you'll repay him if you like, and buy, the car.

Just follow the golden rule:

If you need to ask, then, yes it's a scam!

I read this far, "The car is located in Madrid" and knew it was a scam. Oh I'm sure there are the occasional genuine sellers in this situation but the ratio of genuine to scammer is so small that they will probably never sell their legitimate car.

Leave well alone. I've been in the RN for 16 years now and don't know of any German drafts that are available to RN personnel.

I quite fancy stringing him along somewhat .......

But, then again, why bother?

Cheers all

Scam: One of the better written and more plausible ones. I guess done by a copycat with more brains and better grasp of English than the average Nigerian scammer.

Even if it was legit, if it was bought by someone in the armed forces chances are it hasn't had VAT paid on it....and tax man is very keen to to have his VAT paid when the car is put back into UK civillian ownership.

these cars are usually sold on to uk dealers for an agreed price arranged when the car is supplied with agreed mileage.
