Work rota change, notice advice.
Righty, Claire (Fiancee) has been issued with a new rota at work, and has been told it will be put in to effect in one weeks time, now this rota change is drastic and now involves working nearly every weekend (5 of 6) and changes the days of in the week and the time of work each day. The previous rota has stood for 3 years, and the changes will effect various plans already made for later this year, as in holidays etc.
Claire`s contract states that work is rota based and involves working a variable shift patter between 8am and 6pm. (The new roat keeps to this) But it does not mention weekends.
If the rota does come into effect, Claire will be looking for another job, however she has been told that an employer will have to give 90 days notice of a permenant rota change, I can not find any info to confirm this, anyone got any ideas????

We had a similar thing happen at our place, not so drastic though. People didnt want to do it but the company said if they had to they would enforce 90 days notice and change our hours anyway.
If all the workforce make a stand then they will have to give this notice and it will give those who want to leave time to do so and find a new job.
My place we accepted the change as it was to help the company and give some security to our jobs, That and the fact working 42 hour weeks during the 'Racing season' meant we only do 4 days and 32 hours for 17 weeks in th summer !!!!.

In our place it's 14 days notice of change of rota. Have a look through her contract and see what it says about notice and weekend work. Is she in a union?

Does she actually work weekends currently - Im assuming so as you mention it changes the days of during the week? 8am-6pm is not outside of normal business hours so wouldnt qualify for any time of shift bonus for antisocial hours. But weekends obviously do. What kind of shift pattern includes working 5 out of 6 weekends? I cant imagine too many people would be prepared to do that unless they were offering a very good financial renumeration.

Most shift changes are contractual, she needs to dig out her contract and see what it says. Any employer can change a shift but by law it is 90 days unless stated otherwise in her contract. If it says any 5 from 7 then you are stuffed about the weekends

The contracts my staff used to sign said they would work x amount of hours per week. It also stated that hours worked would be dependant on the business needs - possibly more, possibly less depending on how busy it is.
Rotas theoretically could be planned six weeks in advance but only put on display the day before it came in to effect.
