anyone play pc games? mic question
hi ive got a mic into the pc and its never worked, want to get it workin for a game called counter strike.
it comes up with red cross under device manager. And all the controls are ghosted like gone. When you try and move the bars they auto move down.
do I need a sound card because at the mo it goes through my motherboard.
just through there be some WOW or CSS players here

sounds like it needs a reinstall of the driver.
easier to get a new soundcard and get headphones with a boom mic built in.
you can then have the sound effects as loud as you like and still be able to talk without pissing people off!!

As above really. . .
Should you go down the buying a card route. . "Sound blaster" sound cards require a "professional mic" £40.00+
I picked up a Logitec USB mic for about a tenner. Plug & play.

Couple of things about mics and online gaming - get a pair of 'phones with a boom mic or you WILL be set to ignore by everyone. I have a pair of Seinheiser plugged into my X-Fi and they are perfect
The problem you'll be having with the soundcard on the mobo is most likely that it is set to speaker (usually sub) output - if I remember correctly you need to reconfigure the card to redefine the port as a mic in socket. Time to dig the manual out for the mobo.
Alternately (and a better option - go buy a Soundblaster.... I got the Platinum version with the bay mounted break out box which makes routing cables way easier, but you really don't need this!)

or take this to computer related!
You clearly already have a sound card - no point buying another one - just get this one working - have a look on the cd for the MB it will have the sound drivers on there. Might also need KB888111
